    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with Buyee before. I left a snipe bid for an item I was very keen on (vintage Bullmark Gorosaurus) and after checking the finishing price I assumed I'd won it (my bid was 5k-6k yen over the finishing price), however it never appeared in my won items so I emailed customer service.
They replied basically saying my snipe bid didn't go through and eluded to the fact the seller chose not to sell to an international buyer, has anyone had this before? I don't use Buyee often and have never had this on the other platform I've used for years, I'm wondering if Buyee just ballsed it up?

    Cheers

    Dave

Hey Dave, haven't had this with Buyee, but I know similar things have happened to me on other platforms (e.g. ZenMarket). I am sorry you missed out on the Gorosaurus, I completely understand this frustration. It is made that much worse than a normal auction loss, as you usually had ample opportunity to actually increase your bid - and would have done - had you know that you were not in fact the high bidder. So while I don't know if there might have been an actual technical issue around Buyee, other middlemen/buying services seem to occasionally also suffer this problem.

FWIW I will keep an eye out for a Bullmark Gorosaurus for you now and let you know when I see one crop up.

@djkemp Yes. I've received this message in regard to a similar incident a while ago:
Unfortunately, the rules of Yahoo Auctions in Japan offer the sellers a great deal of authority.
They have the right to choose whom they wish to sell to, and thus they also have the right to cancel bids.
Usually, sellers do not provide us with any reasons why they cancelled the bid.

There was one time my (non-snipe) bids for an auction were cancelled via Buyee pretty soon after making them, and after testing the waters, two other proxy services did the same. That seller was proactive and on point.

I’ve used Buyee a fair amount and unfortunately, have come up against the same issue (a seller unwilling to sell to someone outside of Japan).

In some instances, Buyee will tell you upfront (I assume due to notations on the listing itself); however, I have also had a winning bid cancelled and I assume this is at the behest of the seller.

In spite of this, I have found Buyee to be reliable and have not had any other issues.

Cheers guys, thanks for the input. its an odd one because this is a seller i have bought from many times in the past on jsub but the first time on Buyee and it doesn't go through, nevermind, on to the next auction!

This has happened to me several times. A few times my snipes were $200+ over the winning bid too lol. I've even won AND PAID for a few auctions and after some time I got my $ back and they said the sellers cancelled, and there's nothing they can do about it.

Buyee is honest and reputable as far as I've ever seen. They are not omniscient or infallible, however. Which is a shame,as I always wanted a god like being to do my hunting for me. That said, I've had my issues with them, but on the whole they are about the best service I've used.

This usually happens when the seller sees that it’s going to to a third party service ‘cause they don’t want to sell outside of Japan. No idea why, but I’ve had the same thing happen to me a couple times, and it was the reason the seller gave. I’ve also noticed many listings will inherently discard third party buyers or strictly sell in Japan only.
