Went to see what Bwana was up to at Schmancy's early this evening. Lotsa little & medium paintings (some old & some new), figures, shirts & his new book. Really nice guy. I had had a long day so I ducked out before the crowds & pencil fights arrived. Definitely check it out if you are in nearby for last legs of the 'tour'. Could not spring for any paintings or handpaints, but did get the GID Stevens from the NYC, Paris (or London?) & Seattle shows.
nothing against bwana, hes an awesome guy, but this paint application isnt doing anything for me. it seems too transparent and haphazardly sloppy.
Are these Bwana painted or "factory" painted? I really like these guys, best Monster Factory figures so far.
Excited to see my beardy friend. I would say its the best thing I got out of comic con, my friendship with Mr Spoons. Ive seen the book and I love it.
I'll see you there, buddy. S7 events are a great excuse for me to get back to the city, check out awesome toys, and hang with my SF friends.
Hey Biff, Any chance you could put up some pictures of the back of them? My two are somewhere over the Pacific right now, and I still have yet to see the back of these. Brian said there were supposed to be letters on the back that spelled S-T-E-V-E-N, but that's the only person I've heard that from. You mentioned that yours don't have the letters, and it got me curious to see what the back is like.
That's a good question. I don't think I've even seen a picture of what the back of this guy looks like. Would be nice to see how his wings lay from the back.
There's a few pics on Bwana's flickr where you can see the back of some of the Stevens. I don't see any letters though.
to me character looks a little too cute, but paintjob couldnt be more subtle imo. really love to see how different colorways seem to work fantastic together. great concept & execution that im missing elsewhere...
Me neither. I know the UK and France stop don't have the Stevens yet, and are still waiting for them to arrive. It sounds like the letters on the back were originally planned, but then delays kept it from happening. That's fine with me. Maybe I can be satisfied with owning only a few, instead of the entire set.
Any Skullbrainer's planning to attend the GR2 stop saturday that would be willing to pick me something up?
I'm not attending any of the WTF event but I just got Bwana's book "Welcome To forest Island" and I can recommend it to any one who goes. There is a lot of paintings and comix in it (but no toys). The book in itself could have been better. Top Shelf tend to be sucky. S7 should handle stuff like this. Mook like would have kill. A great buy anyway.
Nice seeing everybody tonight. I guess I need to bone up on my pencil fighting skills. Here's a few pictures for those who couldn't make it. One for you guys looking for a rear view: Seen here: Dustin Cantrell (midnight26man) taking a crack at Bwana's pencil in the preliminary pencil fight demo. Bonus ghost orb on Dustin's back. Got hungry and had to go to Japantown mall for snacks. This pencil fight was still in a deadlock. Who won?
Haha, that's my wife in the purple kicking some pencil butt. I got to the finals but got my ass handed to me. Forgot the dudes name.
I did! Pencil fighting was a blast and Bwana is a super cool dude! This was the prize! If you want to see more pics of the show: http://www.flickr.com/photos/34295608@N ... 619736300/
