As valuable shelf space slowly (ok maybe not so slowly in the last month or so) gets eaten up by toys I was just wondering if anyone had recommendations for CD/DVD/Record shelving. I've been slowly weeding out less-listened to stuff and putting them in those Rubbermaid containers but for everything else I was wondering what other massive music and movie enthusiasts used.
I've been slowly pouring my movies and music into my comp-Got a Sony VAIO w/260 Gig hard drive for exactly that reason..Then putting them into storage for future use if wanted...
here's our DVD shelves. I don't really know if this answers your concerns about saving space though. we live in a very tiny apartment (a one bedroom that used to be a single hotel room) and we're actually very much out of room. these pictures are old and most of the VHS tapes and video games have been tucked away elsewhere to make room for even more DVDs. we could really use another shelf as well.
If you're really desperate, you could get rid of the jewel cases and clamshells and put your CDs and DVDs in those big CD zipper albums. Most of the space is taken up by the cases, which you don't really need.
man, why did we take pictures when the apartment was so messy?! haha. also, both of those shelves are now maxed out, and we are back in the same storage predicament.
I have many dvd's on shallow open shelving with corresponding toys (such as Seven Samurai gashapon) tucked in, but I keep an equal number in some cheap, lockable file cabinets from Target (gotta keep the kid away from Sin City,Lone Wolf & Cub, Battle Royal,etc.).
I keep all my cd's and dvd's in Caselogic binders. Here is a link to the cd holder I use on their website. They also have one's for DVD. I have thrown out all my jewel cases. I have 5 of these cases, so almost 500 cd's and all my DVD's end up taking up only one shelf on a bookcase. .http://www.caselogic.com/208_capacity_cd_wallet/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=44243
