Glad you liked it, but from my perspective, the movie industry isn't taking chances and making quality films. Omen (the remake) Pink Pather (the prequel or whatever) Posidon All the tv shows being made into films List goes on and on. Feels like the average movie is targeted for the teenage male crowd. Although that will be changing with on demand releases and same day dvds.
+1 that said, i'll still rent Clerks II on video. Theatres are too expensive (hullo, that $ is for toys bitches!) I went to see Pirates with my mom, at a matinee. she paid!!! HAHAHAHA!!
Who goes to theatres anymore? I try to avoid them. The whole experience sucks (in my experience) with people talking, cell phones, sticky floors, advertisements before the film etc. And if I rent, I do the "two for tuesday" and get two for the price of one. I'll admit that I'm the ultimate cheapskate. No shame here. Okay, I did do something similar where my mom volunteered to buy my ticket for "Inconvenient Truth" and I didn't put up a fight.
Goddamn, I loved this movie. True to the spirit of the original, and they actually got to leave their place of employment this time. I don't want to spoil much, but I'm sure Transformers fans will be outraged at Kevin Smith for the way they're portrayed in this movie. I've seen Scanner Darkly twice, and I think I'm going to buy it when it comes out on DVD (which is rare for me). Definitely the truest adaptation of any Philip K. Dick novel so far.
Just a comment about this: Clerks II wasn't a studio film, it was a relatively small independent production, as opposed to the other movies you listed. It was made primarily for fans of the previous films, and wasn't expected to get into many theaters because they planned on releasing it unrated. They just submitted it to the MPAA for the hell of it and got an R, which got them widespread release.
i went and saw this when the power was out in my neighborhood due to a harsh storm. it was ok but was forgettable. everyone is really creepy looking now (which i guess adds to the movie). i <3 rosario
Aside from the soundtrack reeally taking away from the movie at points I thought Clerks 2 was great. It was totally in the same spirit as the 1st and just as over the top. You can't taste racism.
I concur - it was GREAT! When I first heard they were making it I thought "ugh". But then it was 105 degrees here a couple weeks ago so we went to have a nice cool afternoon at the movies. Definitely in keeping with the original - probably more over the top though. I don't buy DVDs, but I'll probably buy this one since I have the original Clerks and it might be fun to watch them back to back at some point. Apparently it got a 10 minute standing ovation at some film festival, and some big name producer said he's never seen a standing-o that long before (like the vagaries? My wife knows all the names, I can't be bothered with remembering those details!).
