Much cooler. I greatly prefer art over an artist simply adopting Japanese soft vinyl as a medium and trying to cash in. I collect toys, not designer vinyl. While a lot (all) of the toys I own have artistic value and are clearly the work of an artist's hand both in sculpt and paint, they are mostly certainly not an art piece -- this is. I guess that's where I see a clear distinction and why I don't care for it at all.

But then that begs the question, what is the difference between this and say a Le Merde, Martin Ontiveros, Skinner, etc. toy? Aren't they just the artist's two dimensional work translated into the tangible world? While that's obviously true, their toys are still toys. Figment is something that I could imagine seeing at a Pier 1 Imports or Target in the home decor section. You'd take it home, set it on a shelf next to your giant canvas print of Marilyn Monroe or whatever and people would say 'huh, that's neat.'

Enough ranting. The gist -- please keep art out of sofubi.

Tomopop posted this earlier, for those interested who haven't seen them yet -The Priest. I know Brian Flynn instagrammed the boxes for it before SDCC started, but here's what would go in said boxes.

It really feels like S7 is making a push to become the American version of Medicom. Not in love with "The Gonz". I grew up watching his skating as well, and I just never got why he attained such a cult following... There were so many good street skaters, that never got the rep that Mark got. Besides "all" that, it just looks like a vinyl statue to me, and if I'm buying a statue, it might as well, be a bronze, or carved out of wood. Vinyl just melt's down over time (or on really hot summer days). The rest of the S7 releases, were amazing except I'm not digging the Coop mecha thing either (I'm so fricking sick of Pentagrams). Which is weird because I love Coop's art, but I've never seen a toy that captures the feeling his paintings give me.). I even like the Tank monster thing, and I never really got into the Leroy fig. All in all the the S7 releases look great, and I love what their doing with the new standard line.

Hmm, good observation! That's an interesting thought. Probably on a lot of peoples minds

Of course no one would love every type of release, but this country would definitely benefit from a toy company with the interests and range of Medicom.

Super7 would be a Great candidate to take the reigns! Regardless of the comparison, I'm definitely a fan of some of these directions S7's taking!

Indeed. I for one am less than enthused with all the licenses. I like s7 because of their original designs (actually, because of Brian's). I hope they don't get lost in the bustle.

Thank you. You're not alone. I'm gonna be honest, the Alien figures I can understand. There's that realized nostalgia to it since they were never made, it's a cool movie, and it feels like a good way to appreciate the fans and source alike. The Alien drinking glasses though? Not so much. The Storm Trooper was cool because it didn't feel unlike S7 to make it, to me it seemed like a really limited figure made for serious fans of S7 and SW alike, by S7 to show love for the property. I liked it a lot, but I never thought it would be the new thing they just did all the time. I'm totally not feeling the Transformers line. I don't really see why it's being made other than money and wider range of people buying it. If it was just a couple figures, maybe, but there's gonna be glasses and shirts and everything else. I get that it's the original Transformers, but what's next?

Agreed! This direction is AWESOME and I fucking applaud S7 for doing what they do. I wasn't sure what direction they were going, but this is all VERY promising :!:

Who the fuck is my Shogun Trooper supposed to fight if he's the only one?

Compared to that terd batman shogun super 7 can make shoguns based on lord of the rings. I'm really looking forward to the Transformers line.

    to seeing the product.

Your faith gives us all hope.

Transformers is a Japanese product packaged by Hasbro. I don't love it, but it makes a lot of sense for the Shogun line.

I edited it because the KR comparison was a low blow and I was being an entitled whiney douche. The end product will probably be cool, we all know that. I just want more original product, I mean, that Crystal Mecha prototype has been around awhile now.

I have two Japanese sofubi TFS from the 80s that are pull string talkers and they are awesome, Hotrod and Galvatron. If S7 does more big, blocky soft vinyl G1 tfs that look like vintage vinyl then that is great news because G1 tfs translate well since they are goofy looking already...and you may not have noticed but that teaser poster says Transformers "SHOGUNS" plural.
Maybe OPTIMUS and MEGATRON? Megatron could shoot balls like my awesome shogun XX-8 weapons arm!

Don't be too worried about S7 becoming the American version of any other company....I think they'll just be the next BIGGER S7.

Ha...you're right, sorry..the thread title about the release, email and website all say "...announces SUPER SHOGUNS" and I thought it was on one of the posters I saw at SDCC.
I was coming right from my email!
