ok sorry if you are all sick of this, but this time its for science. I am exactly 5 foot tall. So yeah, do the math.
I'm 6'1" and met him once at a signing. He wouldn't stand for a picture, rather I had to hunch while he signed stuff. When I asked "what's up?" just as a regular "hello" he replied ".............signin' shit." I love Danzig. And that comic is funny as hell.
Sorry, any chance to post this pic I will! I'm the spikey blonde looking lovingly at Danzig during this Samhain gig in Pittsburgh, 1985...they used to stay at our house whenever Samhain played. Glenn once belittled me for collecting Japanese "kids" toys, since he was all into the dark stuff and I liked Ultraman. I'm not mad at him for that.
Oh no, I knew he collected Japanese toys, he just made it seem like I was silly for being into Ultraman. Obviously he was too! I had showed him my Ultraman tattoo, this was 1989, the first Danzig tour, and that's what he said.... maybe he was just trying to be cool for the throng of hot metal chicks hanging around the tour bus.
Hilarious story! I do a Danzig impression based on his interviews from the VHS released after the first album hit, I'll need tot steal that story. It's one of those things where I was soooo into his music in high school, but now that I'm older with a better sense of humor I laugh at him too. It's a weird line, cause' I DO really respect his music (well, most of it) but the guy just always takes himself so damned seriously in interviews. Hard not to make fun of that attitude.
I read an interview once where he was asked if he ever killed anyone, he didn't say no and he didn't say yes... Evil! He was always nice to us though, I felt bad seeing that video of him getting his clock cleaned.
Where was that show? Looks like a high school classroom. Of course, back then that wouldn't have been too unusual - you just did shows wherever you could. And you have to love the fact that "Eerie Von" looks like a total AV club geek - is that a long-sleeve sweater over a turtleneck? Great photo.
Heres the flyer, it was at the University Of Pittsburgh. Eerie Von is wearing a Star Trek shirt, blue. The guy in the vest was the local punk "bouncer". The tall guy in the back is Damon Che' from Don Cabellero , my close personal friend. There's a few guys from Philly in the pic, the rest are from the best, most under-rated punk scene ever, PITTSBURGH.
