    So awesome.

I have started a 'Sambo lips' kaiju collection. It only has two pieces so far -- a Heater and the M1 Parababy guy (thanks Frank!). This Woo would be such a perfect fit.

What is so 'shocking' about that? You do realize that people collect such things, one notable mention being Golliwog merchandise.

You do realize that the term you used is very offensive. That's what the shock is about. It's no sweat if you feel ok slinging the word around, but you gotta be ok with others who aren't. No matter if people collect it or not.

Hey, you should just be aware of what your saying. I think if you knew the history of the term from antebellum America, its usage in the minstrel show and how that helped to give rise to Jim Crow laws and the spread of racial stereotypes and hatred you wouldn't use it so freely. A term synonymous with slavery and racial stereotypes is not really what you want to use I don't think.

Not trying to break your balls, just giving you a heads up.

the blatant and unapologetic use of racist slang is what is so shocking.

I will not apologize for something that I don't feel I should, and especially something which never had ill intentions behind it in the first place.

There was a reason I capitalized Sambo, and that was to refer to the character of Little Black Sambo, not as a racial slur.

This is getting way out of hand. If people want to chastise me any longer, PM me and we'll deal with it that way.

i think it's highly unlikely (at least I want to believe so) that you intended to use the term in its most offensive sense - and it is a truly offensive term that has no place on this forum or any other - you just may not realize the history behind it's use or understand how offensive it is to some people. So, taking you at your word, i don't think you need to apologize for intending to hurt someone but it would be a good idea to make it clear that the choice of words was ill advised given the racist meaning usually associated with that term.

I have to admit, I was suprised when I saw the word used in the post when I read it this morning...BUT, I think we can safely asume that it was meant in the way it was intended, and not as a knife, but as a description of a type of collectible...still, using quotes or not using the word at all is always the safest bet...

it's an ugly word...no matter what it's used for...but I think we should drop it as wasn't being used as an attack...if BBot was a problem, it's safe to say it would have come out long before he reached the amount of posts he has, no?

I wasn't shocked or anything, kind of didn't think twice about it.

Totally not taking sides, but I have a question. What's the proper term for collections like that? I've seen em, whole collections of black "mammy and pappy" or "Sambo" style stuff, and I'll be honest I don't know if there IS a term. Things like salt n pepper shakers, very "Uncle Tom", and old product ads. Just wondering if there is a proper or PC term?
