After having been inspired by the likes of LamourSupreme and Joshuajh and the great work that they've been posting here, I thought that I'd put up some of my own stuff. With the love of skulls and all things creepy around here, it seems appropriate. The work is all photo based and consists of layers of transparent photographic material separated by either plexi or glass. In this way there is a 3D element as you can actually look into the pieces. In certain cases glass layers are also etched with old medical illustrations.
Thanks Count. I recall you mentioning in previous posts that you were into this sort of stuff. Glad you like it. The image you mentioned is actually of my Father. It was developed with a series of anatomical overlays on top of the original image. The torso itself is actually taken from the tomb of the Medici family, while the skull was photographed at a Health Sciences Lab that I got access to. I like using old references and then superimposing medical imagery over top as it does give it a modern medical/scientific feel as well. Your comments about the Romanoff family are really interesting. I'm going to look into that some more. Thanks
For sure. This whole series was based on the history of medical imaging. As such many of the backgrounds came from Renaissance sculptures. These "bodies" were then overlaid with various modern medical material – x-ray film, MRI, Ultrasound etc.

Thanks. That one took a bit of time. It was as a result of my thinking about how medical imagery had moved in a completely digital direction. The image is of a skull that I photographed and printed on Lith film (Transparent film often used in silkscreening). The image was then cut into hundreds of 1/4" squares and rebuilt on 16 layers of glass. The cube is aprox. 8" X 10" X 5" in size.
