Just make up a name and see if it sticks. The Tokyo name was made up by Skullbrain members. It was used a few times to describe the original Bullmark Hedorah color scheme and it eventually stuck. How about calling it the Osaka color scheme in honor of Japan's 3rd largest city?
Yeah, I like that. Maybe 'Shirane orange,' since that was the location of one of Baragon's first appearances in the Frankenstein movie? Dunno... Osaka makes me think of the Hanshin Tigers colors. ;P
I know of color schemes called "Tokyo" that predate Skullbrain, but don't remember what Mr. Flynn once told me about the appellate. I was originally curious because of the Tokyo Blobpus but as I recall there's a history there going back to the 1970s.
Do you remember if it was for a color scheme that was released only in Tokyo (and no other cities) back in the 70's? Also, were the color schemes similar to the yellow color scheme that people currently refer to as Tokyo? I think the Pink Hedorah color scheme was referred to as the Hawaii color scheme because that version was only available in Hawaii and not in Japan.
tokyo colorway refers to the bullmark yellow hedorah, and im pretty sure that label originated with blobpus. they made two blobpus figures, one colored like the yellow hedorah, one like the pink. the pink was labeled the hawaii blobpus, the yellow was labeled tokyo, and the name caught on.
Sweet! That's the first official "Tokyo" colorway that I could think of, but I didn't trust my knowledge on this subject...thought something may have come before that.
youre probably right there. they would sell to anyone whenever i think tokyo, i think of the gargamel yellow walking hedora with green, black, etc spray
Nah, it's cool Pickle. The reason I deleted my own post is because I hadn't really caught up with the thread before posting. When I looked back and saw Josh's post, I realized that he'd cleared something up that might make my post look redundant or dumb. No biggie. Wouldn't be the first time I yapped redundantly around here. And on that note, the thing that got me thinking about this colorway was the Blobpus "Sunglow" set (Blob, Bloppi, Docross, Mini-Docross, Kaijin.) It's not precisely the same but appeared to be a riff on the "nameless" color scheme.
The funny part is that I don't even know if this one references the yellow Bullmark Hedorah. Hawaii = Hawaii spray Bullmark Metron. Tokyo... dunno. Reminds me a bit of the Hawaii spray Bullmark Black King. Hawaii/Tokyo was also used for the Umi-Gon Blobs: I think these reference the Bullmark Kanegons.
