Thanks, man. It really just comes down to patience. Just gotta have a plan, go slow, and put in the time to get it to come out right. Fortunately, this one was for a very patient dude so I had all the time I needed to complete it.

A bit of dry-brushing along the helmet would be nice. That black is a bit too dead.

Eh...some get the drybrushing and some don't. Though it would look out of place if it were the only drybrushed surface on the figure.

Here's a little glimpse of the process for anybody that's interested. I take lots of crappy phone pics while I'm working and it really helps me out.

    Great work, Dustin!
Great color choices, and I really dig the face, mouth and teeth!
I see what Bert is sayin' about the black, face-ringing part of the helmet... a little something to set it off from the black of the eyebrows wouldn't hurt, but isn't really necessary, imho.

And I REALLY like to see your in-prog shots; after every custom I finsih, I give myself another "DAMMIT! WHEN will I start taking good in-progress shots?" kick!

    Your avatar is extremely annoying.

    Dustin,
Quick question(s) was it necessary to paint the silver on the ears of s-taiin? Or did you paint them and decide to switch it to blue later?

Also I can't tell if it's just the photo but are there little white dots on the eyes? If so..that's really incredible and such a cool detail. I really liked watching the behind the scenes on how to paint this guy.

    Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Custom S-Taiin #6: 7/13/11

Good catch on the silver ear parts. Not at all necessary. Just kinda seeing what it would look like before I was committed to a different helmet color. I decided it sucked that way and switched the helmet color to the gold.

Sometimes these figures change as I paint them. Ideas don't always work out. Think of the pics as more, "behind the scenes," than, "how-to."

And yeah, there are tiny white dots in the eyes. Thanks for noticing.

Ah. Okay. The touch of blue or accent is great as are they eyes. This is one toy that's fun to see painted up and you seem to nail it everytime.

Now onto more dinos. Any others in the works?

There was some images on this board about an artist who kept making cool hybrids and mashup. I'd love to see a well executed trex/chicken.

Still trying to bring this guy together:

Lots to do. Gotta do the feet, large spikes on the top of the frill, and overall texture. Then, figure out how to separate the head from the body cleanly. Gonna need to make separate molds.

Bitchin'. I like the proportions and how the legs are bent--I'm no paleontologist, but that shit looks "right" to me!

Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Kirby Krackle Rose Vampire: 8/10/11

Here's my first stab at painting a Rose Vampire. I wanted to make sure that there was a huge contrast between the rose itself and the planty part...as if the body was solid and the rose/head were made of energy.
