I guess I could pick up a cheap Region free player - but not sure I would get that much other use from it.

So you are saying I would FIND uses for it if I had one. Yeah, I guess you are right! :)

Where's the best place to get one?

you open up limitless options when it comes to watching films from all around the world which many times you normally wouldn't have access to simply because no US company feels that they could make money releasing them

think of all the fantastic cinema you have been missing out on

there are many affordable all region players these days. sometimes even reputable companies make them, you just have to get the right model and then "unlock" the capabilities with a series of commands on the remote.

I have 2 Philips players that were like this and they were each under $100

Hong Kong DVD players are all region free. Go to any store and you can buy it. There are DVD stores here that sell the most obscure next to most recent pop films, and all are region free.

You are missing out man :)

Bride of Frankenstein is one of my favorite monster movies. Frankenstein is one of my favorite books - especially the Mead Dodd edition illustrated by Bernie Wrightson.

You might sleuth a little online. I have heard of sites that offer codewords/settings that 'releases' some dvd players into all region. (I guess for these players, the same models were made for international distribution & it is just a matter of 'switching' the software.)

Go to Target or some other big box store, get any Phillips (the HDMI model if you have a big screen) and go to videohelp.com in the "DVD Hacks" section to get the hack code to make it all region. They are great players.

Or if you are in L.A., come to my store. ;)

And Skylar is right, they are one of the greatest inventions. If you are even remotely interested in cinema and you want good quality, non-bootleg releases, you have 3 - 4 times the options when it comes to movies if you can go all region.

There is so much good stuff out there that never hits U.S. shores or is out of print here.
