This sounds awesome, I'm curious how the 2-9pm part is going to go down? I might need to take a sick day for this...since I'm already taking a vacation day on Friday.
I’ve always been curious about this: how does a line form at exactly 2pm without there POSSIBLY being a line before 2pm of people waiting to get into a line at 2pm? Like, is everybody going to wait in their cars, or in bushes, pretending to be looking at the sky, then 2pm hits, and they all simply pop into a line with no fuss and no trouble, like lemmings in a computer program? I assume there will be a line for the line, before 2pm, because reality exists and humans are in it...? It won’t be a line though. Just an amorphous, chaotic blob of humans hovering around where the eventual line will be. Also, I wish I had the time and $ to come out a couple days early to attend this show and be a part of the NOT a line. Until it IS a line... jelly.
I'm sure this event will be much different than DCON or any of the Asia shows. In my DCON experience, they've always attempted a "NO LINE UP" before a certain time, with this amorphous blob just hanging out by the booth. Then when it's time to line up, the blob will basically take shape of the line. I'm sure things are different in Asia regarding campouts, but I have faith they have a system in order. I'm sure it will be close to how Mori runs his shop in Japan, with the line forming à la popsicle sticks or chopsticks. So it's almost like a first come first serve, but also lottery. I've seen people pretend that they don't understand English and continue to linger. I've seen them try to enforce the "NO LINE UP" rule with DCON staff warning those who are loitering, that there will be consequences. They probably won't get first dibs.
Thanks for the updates @nicholasfung Just curious if you helped organize the show? I'm sure it will be run well with all their past experiences. This was probably 1 of the biggest grievances with pulling out of Dcon. None of the staff there helped in organizing the lines much, they were more interested in traffic control. I understand that they couldn't do much to help this with so many people crowding. This also left little control with the toymakers who care about their product and their fanbase.
This is dm I reiceved from the Game of hope Instagram asking about the no line up rule “We are trying to make it very similar to Dcon, in a more fair and organized fashion. At Dcon, we implement a “no line-up” rule to respect the space and neighboring booths. Of course people don’t always listen, and they linger. We don’t want a mad-dash to the store, and we don’t want the neighbors to have to deal with a rowdy crowd, so we will kindly ask that people show up at 2pm. At 2pm, the purchase rules will be set and a formal line will be created.”
Duuuuude. I was there when the DCON staff came over, and they saw the line and did a small, "Shoo! Get out of here!" and left. The crowd didn't leave haha. I'm also NY based.
I'll be going probably on crutches. I hope they have a bench or something there I can sit down on outside lol.
@Madd ChiLL Mitch is there a reason why this event is at 2pm on a weekday? Most people have day jobs and need to either call in sick or take a vacation day, and many are already doing that for Dcon Friday. Just curious, not complaining.
Hey everyone, couldn't go and can't take the day off. Please post pics pics and stories of how the show was for those of us who could not make it.
My guess it that it's on a Wednesday so that Mori and crew can go and enjoy Dcon themselves and hang out with their friends who will be at the show. Doing it on a separate weekend probably means that they would miss Dcon. Obviously not ideal for us, who may need to irritate our bosses with even MORE days off, but it makes sense from the artists' POV, I'd imagine.
Just don't post selfies of yourself there if you called in sick! "Sorry, boss. I came down with some Goccodo. "
I was somehow able to align a client visit in pasadena today with me taking a lunch at 2. do you guys think it will be crowded?
It’ll be hard to tell if it’s crowded beforehand b/c doors open at 2 and there’s no lineups until 2. @jvles when you get there could you please post an update here on the crowd situation? Thanks
