I know Gamera is usually the good guy...... oh well. This illustration is a combination of photography, old fashioned drawing skills and Photoshop. Let me know what you think. Jack
That's why I don't find it amusing. I'm a pretty big critic of KR, but I consider a lot of the KR bashing that goes on here gratuitous. Lamour has taken shots at KR in his works, but it has never been the focus. This piece doesn't appeal to me because it lacks subtlety. Again, it's just my opinion. You asked what people think.
I added the KR stuff at the last minute based on all of the suggestions I got on my Gojira illustration. Not trying to be political.... not trying to to be subversive. Just trying to make a cool image that I am happy about. Don't make something out of NOTHING............. at least the KR building is still standing.
Different elements in the illustration are traditionally done then scanned. This is done mostly to enhance the photography. The initial part of all of the buildings were traditionally drawn and then textured in photoshop. On Gamera, some of the black areas needed to be drawn in a more organic way than I could achieve on the computer, especially in the hands and face. A lot of the half tone look is from doing a paper overlay on the image after I print it out, then actually shading the tones where I want them with a 6B pencil and then scanning that in. Then converting that scanned image to a halftone. Also, the background is all hand drawn first and then scanned then modified in photoshop. The trick is to blend all of these techniques together so that everything is done on the "same level" and work together as a whole to make the complete illustration. Everytime when I work on these I push myself to make the blending of all elements (whether they are hand drawn or created by the computer), to fit together as seemlessly as possible. I hope that gives some insight. Jack
ok..... maybe I was trying to be a little amusing........ just a little bit. But not too much, I wouldn't want to offend anyone.
