Same thing happened to me twice through ebay. First time the seller refused to do anything about it saying it wasn't his fault. Though I agree he didn't do anything wrong he is still the seller so I expect to get what I pay for and until it shows up on my doorstep his job is not done. I tried to come to an agreement but he wouldn't even respond anymore so I opened a case against him. After he tried ranting and complaining through ebay he changed his tune and just claimed the item never got back to him. Luckily the tracking showed it as returned so a refund was forced.

Second time the item never got anywhere. It got stuck in customs overseas for weeks then just showed as "item information unavailable" for the rest of eternity. Both of us tried to call tons of places for help but it was a lost cause. I agreed to a 50% refund because he really tried to fix things and I didn't want either of us out the whole amount.

    Good luck man.

Here's a new one that never happen to me before. Last week I had a EMS package from Japan. EMS requires a signature. I was tracking the package at work which stated the package was deliver and signature waivered. Signature waivered?! It was sitting on my door step when I got back home.

Had the exact same thing happen last month (for the first time as well). EMS package delivered with the mail... no slip left or attempt at collecting a signature whatsoever :|

Had you been tracking the package? Just wondering if your mail carrier even attempted delivery (and didn't bother to leave a slip) or if it just never left the post office.

Yeah whenever you get something sent to you EMS (was it sent EMS hellscrape?) you will get tracking. Cut n paste that shit into USPS tracking daily. Use it on your phone, ipad, whatever, just keep checking. If anywhere along the lines it seems to get held up for a few days once clearing customs there is a problem. I always call USPS to make sure they are doing the right thing. Once I had a package sent to another city by accident and I actually called the post office I found it was sent to (just google the city and post office/ zipcode you'll get a local office number). Another time when I saw that it was in my local office but not being delivered I called them, good thing too. It was about to be sent back to the sender. Stay on top of USPS.

It was shipped EMS, and it never left the PO, except to be returned to sender... I should have called them, as I watched it sit for five or six days straight, and simply kept hoping they would do the right thing.

I know this sounds stupid, but go to the nearest post office and complain. That's the only way I ever got my USPS bullshit fixed. I probably posted the story somewhere on SB before (can't remember where, too lazy to look for it) but basically I ordered a textbook and it sat in a repackaging facility in Georgia for 4 months before coming back to me. I went to the post office and demanded they pay return shipping so the poor sap whom I demanded a refund from 4 months prior could at least get his book back. Also sent an apology to the guy I bought it from for accusing him of not sending the textbook.

Long story short... Always get a tracking number and complain at the source.

Talk about suck..... I get that areas south of Buffalo have had 5-6 feet of snow so no delivery out there but we have about 8 inches here in the city. Cue the post office not to deliver mail here yesterday. Why? Pathways were clear, no driving ban around here, I call it lazy! Whatever happened to come rain, sleet, snow etc...

ive tried every time ive had issues and it hasnt gotten me anywhere. :?

you really cant do much when the PO tracking says it has delivered your mail (when it has been mis-delievered). They denied my insurance claim and both appeals because they say they have ''delivered my package and have done their due diligence".

Still searching for those lost packages the postal service claims were delivered? Well, this pic might give you a lead as to why. Of course, it is clearly the fault of either you as the recipient (it was delivered after all...right?), or the sender. Prepare for more of this as CP phases out door delivery entirely.

Just by way of further explanation of the photo for anyone not familiar with them, these are communal mail boxes in some residential districts in Canada. They could be at the end of the street or a block away, but amounts to the same as leaving a package abandoned on the roadside, because they are not in front of anyone's home (no one want's it on their property either) - let alone the delivered address. Hence you can see a parking lot in the background in this case. And the proposed model CP is shifting to is to remove all direct delivery in urban areas and switch to this system Canada-wide. Yep, that is a great way to save money.

^^ Wow, that is shockingly bad.
I think if that was the case where i lived, every package would be stolen.

you can see there are lockers, the fault lies firmly with the carrier not putting the parcel in one. the package should be in a locker & the key to the locker goes in the mailbox for the corresponding address. there is nothing wrong with that particular set up, it works fine when your carrier is not an idiot.

Due to USPS probably trying to cut costs we don't have a regular carrier for our route anymore. So every day is hit or miss as far as what kind of carrier I'll get. My favorite is the assumption (and I'm sure most people have experienced this) that you are NOT home during the week so need to bother ringing the bell when you have to sign for a package. I've caught 4 of these temp carriers doing it, basically leaving the slip and running off. I mean how fucking hard is it to ring the doorbell? Some of them don't even bring the package so it was their plan all along to drop a slip. The look on their faces is priceless when I run out and inform them I'm home. BUSTED asshole. It's always "Oh I rang the bell?" to which I reply "Really my doorbell works and my hearing is fine, so what do you think happened there?" It's always the embarrassed "Oh I don't know, I rang the bell..." Dicks! I love that I'm essentially home 24-7 in the summer and can make their life hell.

The other day this woman carrier who looked like a straight up crackhead asks Kim if we know our neighbors and can she leave their mail with us? WTF? Really? I'd call the PO but I get an awful lot of vinyl records coming in on a given week. Easy to crack them if you're bitter carrier looking for retaliation because you got called out. Maybe once I quit vinyl for a bit I will. It's absolutely ridiculous.

I'm lucky, my mail carrier is very cool. He's an ex-sheriffs deputy, big huge wizards beard and always seems to be in trouble with his superiors. I BS with him if I'm outside when he delivers. Always walks packages to the door etc.

The other day I had a temp who shoved a box into my mailbox, somebody had hand written "DOGS" on it... guess he was scared to take the challenge.

This is a really interesting article by Neil Macdonald on the shipping and import restrictions Canadians face every day. I think it is a good read for anyone actually, and delves in to a lot of issues behind this massive hurdle. While I am not surprised it is so convoluted and involved, I am a little disheartened to actually see the numbers the Government spends to maintain this utterly ridiculous and outmoded system.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/online-shopping-cross-border-duties-taxes-1.3647965

It is interesting that this is such a major blockage to sales, that the entire study was actually funded and supported by ebay. The de minimis is so stupid , and I really hope that some people take some time to read through this and can get - at least a little - understanding and appreciation of what we Canadian consumers have to deal with on a daily basis. (And hopefully this explains why we often ask for a little consideration when buying stuff, which I am always very grateful for). I know I have griped on here plenty, but in the modern world online shopping is the future, I think we can recognise that; to have something whose threshold was set in 1985 remain unchanged - purposefully- is almost laughable. It seems like a simple thing, but actually goes to affect a lot of factors, including the economy, employment, and tax revenue. While I would agree it is not a simple issue, I don't think anyone could argue it is outdated thinking. And when consumers and merchants are on the same side of an argument, you must feel there is something to it.

    such bullshit!
its such a pain in the ass to always be asking about declared values (for both buyer and seller) and then continually worrying if its been marked 'correctly' until it arrives.

doesnt the usa allow up to $200 before fees/taxes?
edit: i just reread the article, $800!!!

ive been told that some european countries add the declared value plus postage and tax that total.
the grass is always greener i suppose.

USPS decided to hide my package in a bush near our garage door. I was walking the dog and saw some brown sticking out of the foliage and ivy, and sure enough, it's a box.
I guess we're playing hide and seek now. How do I arrange to have their paycheck hidden?

For anyone that is interested, there is currently a petition before Parliament to investigate and overall the current legislation that governs imported goods and severely hinders cross-border shopping. I urge you* to sign if you have any feelings about this, and share with others.
    https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-399

Silence on the part of the consumers is probably worse at this stage. I'd much rather have my voice heard on my behalf than that of business, or at least alongside it.

    * NB - Canadian citizens and residents only, sorry, should have made that clear

Despite receiving multiple assurances from the PO that they would actually hold my mail this time, they didn't and 3 packages got stolen. After being out of town for the week I'm out $160 in toys and 50 XO bottle opener wedding favors. Shitty. Arguing with them is even worse, because it's just excuse after excuse and lack of any accountability.

I think I'm just going to make the move to P.O. Box, but I really shouldn't have too.

Dear USPS, please stop tinkering with the tracking page. It was good before, and now it sucks.

Yep, but in my experience in the UK, sometimes they include the postage cost in the total and sometimes they don't. Mostly not, but every now and then they sting you. Its random, on a whim it seems.
