I have been building and painting garage kits since the 80's. I also collect Japanese vinyl toys , which is what introduced me to Super 7 mag and this site. I am inspired by all the great customs I see on Skullbrain. Most of my figure painting is acrylic with oil washes I and wanted to try using v color on a vinyl figure. Paint applications on M1, Secret Base and Gargamel figures are my favorites. I am a big fan of Pushead's hand paints. So here are my first 2 attempts at using the V........ The Secret Base DIY Pink Ghost was an experiment in masking, layering clears and trying some markers. Added some pearl to the clear coat. Le Turd was my first attempt, and was stripped. Had to figure out what kind of masking material worked for me. Tried some new techniques I picked up reading the threads. Kinda had an idea of how fast V dried but did not realize it is almost instant. I really like that property. Went for traditional Rat Fink colors on him. I still need some practice and plan on doing more as soon as I have time. Thanks for looking. Here are some of my kits
Really nice. digging the subtle colour shifts blue/green/gold on the turd, looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks guys. Here is a better pic of the Mars Attack kit for Lurker. It was from a Japanese garage kit maker called Monster Shop. The guy did awesome characterizations. The Martian is about 3 1/2 inches tall. The head came in three pieces and you put it together in the glass dome like a ship in a bottle. The dome looks like it was a light bulb with the end cut off. One of my favorite kits, thanks for asking about it.
Very awesome stuff! I love the detailing on the Obake, a sculpt i'm not a fanatic about, but your paint application makes me want one! Those garage kits are looking mighty fine as well! Glad to hear you're in SD too.
Just finished painting this Pushead Companion. V Color on glow vinyl. I lack in the photo skills to take a proper Glow shot, but will keep trying and post one when I get one. Thank you for looking at the pics.
Killer job on that KvP! It looks fantastic overall, but I especially love the random suttle blood splatters.
Thank you all for the comments on the KVP. I did think about stippling this one, but decided to leave them off. Maybe the next one will get the stipple treatment. Evom, I used a sharpie for the stipples on the ghost. Baronacasino, I would be down for a commission, I think I am ready. And damn, Lash wants my KVP, that is a HUGE compliment. Thanks again for the words of encouragement. I will try to paint more next week.
thanks for sharing these pics. i tried viewing them at work but they use a crap version of IE and i can only see SOME pics while trapped in the forbidden cubical zone.. i really dig the obake and KvP. awesome to the 3rd power.
