Didn't we talk about this somewhere around here before? Hmm. Maybe someone was mentioning the newer thing with the same name and I chirped about the proper one. No matter.

Okay... for the dozenth time, allow me to second one of Mark's recommendations! Caught it back in the VHS days, the first plum from a hunt for more Richard Franklin movies that started the day after we discovered...

    Partick! Sweet, sweet trash.

Kind of a Carrie rip, kinda, so a mention brings us comfortably back to Mr. King.

Patrick's great! And yes, we did talk about RG awhile back. Franklin's done some other good flicks as well.

Props to the kids and all, but I'm completely baffled by what else you good folks might have seen in It that was worth your time. Might just be that I don't check out enough modern spooky by committee stuff anymore to be a good judge of how this might have been better than the worst of it, but... 'scary' clown + booming audio + saccharine score + CGI = hat on a hat on hat on a hat. First act was almost great, minus the hats, but there were about four interesting minutes in the remaining 75 of the runtime.

Could be that I had a look at a movie that knew exactly how to blend silence and bombast, bright light and dark corridors, black comedy with earnest intent and the horrific with the mundane just before It - Aronofski's Mother! ruled, kinda - but I'm still pretty certain that I would have found the King thing to be 2/3s bland, forgettable garbage anyway.

Good thing it doesn't matter what I think, huh?

I think IT is pretty much just a rated R kids movie and I loved it. Much more in common with The Goonies or The Monster Squad with some Stand By Me and The Gate and The Sandlot mixed in for good measure. If you expected some dark horror flick I can see why you'd be disappointed. I didn't go in expecting anything at all and I enjoyed the movie from beginning to end for being a grown up throwback to what I loved as a kid. For the record there was A LOT less CGI than you probably think there was. I watched tons of behind the scenes stuff after the movie and read lots too and everyone involved tried to keep as much of it filled with practical effects as possible. From putting the clown on simple stilts to stuff like the actor himself moving his eyes in different directions at the same time to give that creepy unfocused look he had for much of the film.

    Well...

I liked it a lot but it's a character piece about people and survival and has almost nothing to do with monsters or zombies or anything like that at all.

Oh ok, they made the trailer look like it was something about that. I just didn't want to read reviews or anything like that to spoil the movie for me. Im still going to check it out eventually though.

Pretty much this. It isn't a horror, it's a coming-of-age movie with a horror skin. I didn't love it, or hate it - I got exactly what I expected I'd get.

Gerald's Game, based off a King novel, is on Netflix. Viewed it last night with my lady, holy hell
it was tense. a quarter of the way through and I felt I couldn't keep watching. It was great, totally
    worth a watch.

I’m so glad you dropped this tidbit of info, dude. After what a train wreck I heard The Tower is, I was heavily skeptical about spending my time on this one. I trust your opinion! :D

Yup. Gerald's Game worked for me. Never read the book, but knew the basic gist of the story.

I know some people have knocked it on here, and I anticipate not really digging it, but Raw will be on Netflix in the next day or two here. I think I'll watch it and Cult of Chucky on the same day, to balance things out.

Just watched The Void. It was pretty good.
I keep rewetting The Keep. So many layers and a tangerine dream soundtrack got me feeling a certain type of way.

I usually find it sufficient to pee around the perimeter every few weeks. I suppose I can see where it would make some sense to leave little bowls of urine in certain corners of the interior, but I can't imagine what kind of varmint problem you must have if a full wetting would be necessary.

    Good luck!

Tackled this one today and, I don't know, I kinda liked it. Or at least liked it more than you guys. I didn't find the characters very annoying, no more-so than say the jack-asses in any given Final Destination flick (probably not a good example). They just seemed like typical millenials (no offense to anyone here) to me. Or rather, how millenials are viewed/portrayed. I was mildly stunned by a few things, but wouldn't go so far as to say I was SHOCKED by anything, or even grossed out. And the "reveal" was sort of given away early on with the sister. I thought it was well-made and well-acted, just this side of really good. A solid B for me.

I don't mind jack-ass cannon fodder characters, just don't pretend you're making a fucking arthouse movie because you're French... ;)

Totally get it. I didn't really think art house while I was watching it, but maybe because I had re-read all these comments beforehand and was already prepared to not like it.

On another note, is anyone watching the new season of Channel Zero? The first episode was kind of meh, but it's gotten freaky-deaky since. Not as pitch perfect as the first season, but I'm digging it so far. Plus, John Carroll Lynch.

Not really a horror film but I liked it, other than the 10 minute pie eating scene.

Thought It Comes at Night was amazing. People apparently are baffled because Pennywise isn't in it, but if you "enjoyed" The Road you're not going wrong with this one...

That new Leatherface movie was shit, like every movie since the third have been. I couldn't fall asleep last night just thinking of ways a Leatherface origin story could have been better. They're acting like they deserve a medal for the nods to characters in the original when really characters from the original should be there without question and they could and should have been done a hell of a lot better.

Way to fuck up the origin story to one of the best horror movies of all time you fucking shit eating assholes!

Maybe move this to the fuck you thread.

Didn't realize there was a second season! I'll have to check it out.

It was incredibly entertaining for being so quiet and slow. I loved the ghost next door more than any of the other characters though.
