Any Horror movie VHS collectors here? I remember someone way back but can't remember who that was now...

I've always wanted to start an mainly 80's horror VHS collection, for mostly nostalgic reasons and because the box art was great and they just look cooler than DVDs, and as much as the picture is better on DVDs sometimes a little bit of a soft filter can add to some of these shitty old low budget movies in my eyes. Not to mention the real crap that's never made it to DVD!

I've gone on kind of a binge lately and bought a bunch of VHS tapes from various places online, first box came in the mail yesterday and I'm stoked!

^^^ Nice idea . . . the only downside i can think of is a lot of VHS horror flicks are the censored versions.
It took DVD re-issues to finally get uncut and complete movies.
I live in the UK so its probably different over here, what with the 'video nasties' banned-list back in the 80's.

. . . like you say though, theres still plenty of lovely schlock that hasn't made it to DVD yet.

When I purged all my vhs I kept the boxes(folded). I did keep the tapes in the clamshell cases. Mostly Bava stuff.

Other stuff is mostly classic like alien, friday the 13th, nightmare, and metal music videos.

Lurker Saturday the 14th was first "horror" movie I ever watched, I used to spend all my time at the video store in the horror movie section when I was little before my parents would let me rent the stuff, so I finally broke them down with that one under the premiss that it was more of a comedy with monsters, after that it was attack of the killer tomatoes and by then I had them under the old, "well you let me watch those two you might as well let me watch Nightmare on Elm street..."

This is my meagre VHS collection so far, I just got everything in the front row the other day, right behind them are old skateboard videos, the clamshells I've had for years. but like I said I've wanted to do this for a long time and finally broke down and went on a binge, so got about 30+ more similar 80's kind of stuff on the way to me

Also shout out to PK for the kitty urn custom from years ago

Yeah the bubble cover is rad. I'm trying to get to a place about an hour away that might have some decent scores, but generally I don't have a lot of luck at thrift stores and things like that around here.

Bobcat Goldthwait has a new found footage horror movie coming out called Willow Creek. Getting good reviews. But the poster is pure kaiju material.

The strength of the poster design and Bobcat being the director made me look this up. Its found footage and a bigfoot movie. Two descriptors I'm weary of in the horror genre, but I saw some decent reviews as well. Hopefully it'll be alright. I will seek this out.

Except for the stupid skull face, that poster is freaking awesome. Looking forward to this, I enjoyed both World's Greatest Dad and God Bless America very much.

I'm really happy this thread hit the top recently 'cause I've been finding so much greatness I didn't even know existed. I'm very, very curious and equally excited to checkout Willow Creek(if it's actually out, and hasn't just been shown at film festivals).

Yeah, love Bobcat . . . . i think 'Shakes the Clown' is my favourite.
He's been directing some episodes of Marc Maron's TV show recently too . . .

I will have to check out 'Willow Creek' :)

I am really open minded when it comes to horror movies and I can enjoy the no budget one camera stuff just as much as the big budget stuff. I am not picky at all with this genre but this flick was just a big let down.

STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS!

Nothing ever really happens in the entire movie. It had pretty bad acting but good dialog. You never see any type of monster at all. Just a naked woman who might have been the bride of Bigfoot or something along those lines. Basically it's exactly The Blair Witch from wanting to catch something on film to getting haunted by noise while hiding in a tent to getting lost while trying to leave then you hear bad stuff happen at the end but you don't see anything at all.

    ^^ that is the worst..

the wait and no payoff sucks. I just a good slow burn, as long as they get to the fucking point haha. I guess I will have to check it out eventually, always do, but sounds like it is backburner material. It's a shame it wasn't even hokey.. those tend to be the best

just grabbed a used set of the Friday the 13th complete blurays in preparation for Friday. I was getting tired of not having them for when I wanted to watch them. They used to do marathons on any Friday the 13th growing up but now I can't seem to find any.

I am pretty sure AMC is doing a marathon tomorrow :) but the blurays are worth it haha

Horrible packaging. They cannot seem to get this franchise's releases right. That's why I waited so long to get it. I think this is as good as it'll get for awhile though so I'm glad I finally picked it up.
