At this point I can say I've spent more on some of these, the tiniest things I own, than anything else, but I haven't regretted it. IMG_20180529_155415_462-1917x1917.jpg

Never thought I'd have the opportunity to own this particular Ilu piece, given the small run size. I was lucky enough to get it from a friend at the sticker price, but as those of you who bought it at release know, that was still borderline extortion thanks to parties that will go unnamed here ;)

Anyway, that's much of my toy budget for the next few months blown out, but I couldn't pass up this opportunity. Atlas Omega joins the family:

As usual, the box is a work of art on its own, down to the packaging of the micro pilot. One thing I absolutely adore is the head/cockpit cover, which is clear vinyl completely painted over except for the window on the front and the rounded sections on the top of the head. Paint around those clear parts is masterfully clean, and at certain angles you get a nice peek at the (limited) internal details. Receiving this guy absolutely made my week. Now to track down that red Alpha.

Great score! Especially with how expensive and hard they are to get a hold of. But definitely looks worth it to me once you find one. :o:thumbsup:

Working on putting together a display for my base and various minis, but for now here's a preview shot while I work on everything. Could not be happier with this toy, truly amazing. I know most of this line is mechs, but I would love an entire line of different buildings to make an entire space city.

    An update:

Working on a larger crator base now to display all the minis, but the concept of threading through LEDs through the base is what I was so excited for. This was like a small test run to see if I could pull it off without it looking terrible, and I'm very happy with how it turned out.

I'd call it very fair in the current climate, but I'll be kicking myself as hard as everyone else once the steam runs out of this. But these are my favourite toys, and it was worth it to me :) thank you!

If we are going to discuss pricing, I remember the Ilu lottery a few months ago was >$600 thru AA.

Based on that, I also would assume this price range to be "reasonable." In the sense that enough people think it's reasonable for them to get many more entries than they have toys to sell. I do not know how much this gorilla was when it was retail, but it's safe to say it would also be at a higher price if released today. It's not even flipper prices, it's just the "new retail," where the figures seem to keep getting more and more expensive.

Really, wow. Times have certainly changed.

If you go to the very first page of this thread, Anthony has very generously compiled the information there for everyone to view. Skullbrain, where toys nerds go to share junk on silly vinyl dolls, and others just come to moan. At least the toy begging has now migrated to all the 'hip' venues.

I mean, it's not like the Kaijumonster release was any better. With that said, I do know that AA has been higher for many releases. Still, their last lotto (DX at $275) was right in line with Rich's current pricing.

I think, in the end, the artist is dictating the price more than AA is. They are a business, of course they need to make money. You have to pay a middle-man in these situations, that you don't have to pay when you buy straight from the artist.

Well luckily it's not THE new retail, but just a new retail that very few makers have chosen to adopt. As long as suckers keep shelling out insane $$$ and bragging about it, who can blame them?

Oh, I don't disagree with this logic at all! As much as it may hurt collectors in the long term, especially for those who aren't rich. Moreso because I'd rather see the extra cash go to the artists.

Plenty of popular artists have not raised their prices significantly even in the face of flippers. In the end, the artist will charge what they think is fair or what they think they can get, but not necessarily both.

I don't know if it's an unwritten rule here but @HONGXI mentioning the price that this sold for kind of irked me... out of the interest of the seller/buyer's privacy I feel like it's not something to be brought up in a comment like that?

I don't see why, it is a sale on SB. Anyone who is a member can see it. I would be much more concerned over those sales which take place (here included, let's not delude ourselves) without any transparency whatsoever by private channels.

Yeah fair call @ultrakaiju - I just don't see why there was a need to mention price when it was a reaction to some very nicely taken photos (from a phone camera on a tripod i hear..)

Thanks everyone. Pricing for these is a tough one for me, because the more I pay, the less carefree I feel about playing around with my toys, and to me that's where the most fun in these is (you can see my display photo). But the market is what it is. Given the fact that most of the people who collect Ilu Ilu have no intention of parting with it, all I can say is that I'm very thankful to everyone on this board who's cut me a break at a price I could afford. That definitely includes the member who sold me this beautiful Neo Gorilla (massive shout out if you're reading this!)

In other news, realising that the tripod isn't that much work has inspired me to get a solid family shot one of these days, so expect that soon :D

5,900¥ retail... $750 secondary market "reasonable" price
