That 400% Kubrick was the only thing I picked up at last year's Chicago Wizard World/Comic Con/whatever it's called now. It's pretty awesome, in my opinion. As is the Marmit Alien, which I unfortunately don't have As for the movies, the first two are so great, and in such different ways, that I've never been able to make it all the way through any of the rest.
Alien Kubricks are the only Kubricks I own. One of the only ways to get Ripley in her white spacesuit, plus Ash & and Parker. The 400% is amazing. Marmit Alien astronaut figures are my nemesis...I can't find them anywhere Want them badly...
Did Marmit make the Alien in addition to the four astronauts? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKSv85mJEmY I distinctly remember the Alien telling Ripley, "Give up, Alien can't be beat!"
Picture of the Marmit 9" Alien on page 1 of this very thread. I've always loved that commercial...a classic!
It's standard size sofubi. Articulates at arms, head, waist, and legs. There is a glitter version available as well.
No. I can't seem to find a pic of that one right now. I will though. Ricky (Velocitron) might have one. It's Black vinyl with gold glitter and the glitter is subtle.
After re-watching Alien Resurrection, I'm starting to revise my opinion of it. The tone is just off. It was deliberately made as a black comedy by Jeunet, and although Whedon's original script (available online but pretty close to the final product) read more like a comic book than an actual science fiction movie, I think it was mishandled. Strange, I loved it so much when I originally saw it in the theaters. There were things I liked, like the instant whiskey cube, Call's replicant eyes, the mechanical design (I even think I like the Bettie more than the Nostromo and Narcissus) and the scenes referencing Newt in the director's cut, but there are too many little things like the general's brain falling out, and the seemingly endless parade of scenes where characters decide to take a moment to stop running from the monsters and yell at each other.
Sigourney Weaver confirmed that she is recording new commentary for next year's Blu-Ray Quadrilogy release (woot!).
Application of the semiotic square to the character conflict in Alien, interesting (at least to me): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Alien_(film)/Archive_1#Jonesy_The_Cat
On Resurrection: I kinda take it as just a fun, dumb movie. I honestly don't hold it in the same regard I would 1 or 2. Those are like high end dishes, Resurrection is like a ranch burger with bacon. I like both, but for totally different reasons.
^ Very nice! Not sure if I can re-buy the Alien Quadrilogy on Blu Ray...still really happy with the standard dvd version.
Dan O'Bannon just passed, RIP to one of my favorite screen writers. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/43415
RIP Dan O'Bannon I'm going to watch my favorite Zombie movie written/directed by Dan tonight...Return of the Living Dead. I didn't know he did the Star Wars Death Star graphics...that's awesome. For Alien/O'Bannon fans...there is a great documentary about the Alien films called 'The Alien Saga'. It's 2 hours with lots of interviews with O'Bannon himself about his original story and on set stories. $8.49 @ amazon...highly recommended. http://www.amazon.com/Alien-Saga-John-Hurt/dp/B0000C23HB I received my long searched after Marmit Ripley the same day...
For those of you cheapskates who didn't feel like paying full price for that 400% Alien Warrior Kubrick, there are some sellers on Amazon who have it marked way the hell down. I just got one for $36.50 shipped. 400% for 65% off!
I managed to track down Dallas & Kane recently...but I'm still missing the Glitter Alien and the elusive Lambert. Here's one group shot I just took...I'll post more later if anyone wants to see them in more detail...
