Post pictures of those knick knacks you got lying around the house. Yours are cooler than mine, I bet. Here's one I picked up at the Savers. Look at how determined he is to kick that ball with his fist all clenched!
Anna's got some weird old ceramic Asian girls (totally not dolls) and some metal elephant, all from her grandmother's collection. All I've got besides the vinyl toys is mugs/cups, I guess - but I have NOTHING on hateball just 80's cartoons cups, comic movies cups, and Darth Vader mugs.
i get all this shit from the thrift store also! why's it that we're so prone to buying weird old stuff?
cute kitties & great collection of vintage owls, i have a few plus some others too i'll snap some pics..
thanks! you should post em, kichi! the cats are big salt and pepper shakers and i actually have a larger owl collection, it's kinda sad really! p.s. thanks for putting up this thread blake! i'm sure you have more knick knacks than that!
Heres a few ceramic trinkets I have around the house, some Tanuki I got in Kyoto, and a beat up Maneki Neko ive had forever.
^^ Those tanuki are awesome! I knew about the shapeshifting tanuki from the book Yokai Attacks!, but I didn't know until now how widespread in Japan the figures of Tanuki were. RealxHead just revealed a new Tanuki mini that looks a lot like your ceramics. Andy posted about it on Kaiju Korner. Classic Maneki Neko, too. Nice stuff!
Thanks Blake, yeah they are all over the place mostly outside traditional restaurant/inns. Not to derail the thread but heres a shot I took of a huge four foot one outside a restaurant.
Have you been to Asahi Imports? If not, they have many a traditional Maneki Neko in stock. Momoko often has some more fun & cute ones. I just want one from a closed restaurant or something, the ones who hold a beer. I'd like to stick a rootbeer in it's hand instead.
hey dean! I have one of those jesus helps steer the boat pictures too. mine is framed though, not on a piece of tree trunk which is superior in terms of kitsch.
Is that Ken and KFC man in the back? -Whose the dude next to KFC man? Haha! Nice little star wars nook and I like the big pigs also!
It is Ken and Colonel Sanders! The dude next to the KFC man is just some tribal-dressed african doll I found at an antique place!
I didn't know that Momoko was still around. I pass Asahi almost every day, but I haven't been in there in a long time. I'll check 'em out!
