@HardDragon I believe the original Kumon was sculpted by Kiyoka Ikeda and the newer micros were sculpted by his brother Naoya. Toy guru @analog101 confirmed the micro sculptor for me. @akum6n I still visit your blog for solid toy info and pics. http://robotxmonster.blogspot.com/2010/10/shirahama-go-kumon.html?m=1
I’d only really shown the detail of this particular Kumon in a photo I posted years ago, that eventually became a print for the suicide prevention fundraiser. But it is a spectacular pour, one I feel should be highlighted. Outer clear, with clear tips, and an inner black pour.
An absolute killer piece. I always think about assembling mine but I just can’t do it. Seeing pics like this though make it tuff.
@Alebrije just perfect. I can't focus on any one in particular; everything on that shelf is a brilliant example of the sculpt. Great display case lighting too Took a couple of new additions out to the Hudson Valley yesterday on the way to the Clutter show. I wish I'd been able to photograph their matching micros, but the wind was up, and if I ever lose a Shirahama toy to the river I'll be fishing in the Hudson for the rest of my life. The Sour Lemon Kumon seems to be one of the most difficult toys to photograph in natural light that I own, so expect a better shot of that one when I finally crack the code.
Thank you guys! @deafmetal Mark I am glad that you like the collection I hope and serve to attract you to the dark side and adopt more spiders that share with your Classic color Kumon, in fact I have the whole Kumon collection in one of the levels of a Fabrikön display case, so I moved one part of the collection to another display cae more simpler just glass and put it a led strips, But now I am thinking of moving everything to give more space to larger figures like the Nekomata and try if it is possible to accommodate the header cards of the figures in the background or in a glass frame. @zindabad The same thing happens to me, it's almost impossible to choose just one Kumon, just liked all . I think you did the right thing in adopting that pair of Kumon they are great in their style and more beautiful even in person, I hope and you enjoy them very much.
Man, that blue fella might be the loveliest Kumon that I've ever seen, @zindabad. I'm not one for blanks, but almost blank is looking just perfect to me.
@The Moog you're a gentleman and a scholar; thank you. This is the second time you've de-crapped photos of mine, so I'd better learn to do my own editing soon. @toothaction thank you! Toys with a beautiful vinyl base and light paint on the details tend to be my favourites as well. It helps that this palette is really dramatic, and I think those colours lead to a marble that almost looks fully painted: both black and blue could be base colours, and the faint green works as highlighting in a few places. My favourite part personally is the messy black tear leaking out of one red eye.
@zindabad No problemo, i do it for a living. You take good photos with decent results, a few tweaks in Adobe is very quick for me. The better the resolution and quality of the file, the easier and faster it is to edit. Glad you don't take offence to my meddling
Anxiously awaiting my little spider. I promised someone a group shot once this one landed Thank you for the photos @xSuicide Squadx, your presentation of the texture and saturated colours on this guy has me even more excited.
@zindabad Thank you, dude! I’m stoked to help build excitement with some simple images of an exuberant Kumon! You’ll fall in love for the first time, ever!
Decided I'd get a full collection shot once H Yellow came in. Group photos are really hard, especially outside, and honestly make me want a better camera + lightbox. No idea how some of you do it Spoiler: Smaller, prettier photos
Earth Tone Kumon totally reminds me of those little display sand jars with mixed colored sand you get at fairs or carnivals. I can’t believe how many colors Dennis managed to get in here and keep it cohesive without getting muddy. Bravo, Shirahama Seikei. Neapolitan is flat out delicious.
I realised id never taken a proper outdoor shot of my old school crew together. All older releases, i haven't scored any new Kumon for what seems like a long time.
