Loving your progress Hiro, but if I may critique a little bit ? I think if you left some areas of the background of the smoke blank it would make it pop more and also direct the viewer more. You can see how the pattern goes up and to the right, but doing so would really help set it in stone. Like across the skull and some parts of the flowers. Also as for the dotting, maybe to get it finer use micron pens, a .005 pen is a must. This way you can really get that solid to stipple effect refined even more. I have been using them for years for super fine line work like threads of hair. Also what bristol are you using, stay away from smooth. Vellum is just a better base for ink. Again I can really see a progress and its great !
Thanks Lash for the comment and critique. I still got alot to learn so it's great to hear and learn from other artists like yourself. For use of micron...I've actually used it many times before, but it always fades on me for some reason. Not sure why. It's not a true black for me. I usually use the finest quill pen and sumi ink because the black is so rich. Maybe I'll try it again on my next one I'm working on. Thanks again!!!
Hmm, you really shouldn't have any issues as Micron is true black. There might be something your doing to cause them to fade. If I knew your process I could help you out. if you haven't found Brian Ewing yet on Flickr here is his account ( this goes for everyone ) : http://www.flickr.com/photos/34402640@N00/ The man is one of the best illustrators I've seen, he still does ALL his work in pen and ink first before he takes it to the computor. I have learned a LOT from his awesome tutorials and in talks the man even sent me some of his prints ! I HIGHLY recommend you check out his flickr and go though this tutorial , or the many other he has : http://www.flickr.com/photos/34402640@N ... 720024544/ I actually have the print of the finsihed product and its just AMAZING in person. He, like yourself and I uses ink and brush, but he also gives great insight of the entire process. It has helped me refine what I do and I'm positive it will help you out.
Just got this in my e mail last night after coming home from a long day at work. What a great way to end the day!!! Available soon!!!
So i just finished this piece today. I used my watercolors for this piece and I am happy with how it came out. Hope you guys like it. It was really fun.... "Dead Beauty" Ink and watercolor bigger pic here http://www.flickr.com/photos/liljapanart/3609356649/

He will be seen also at SDCC this year so keep your eyes open!!! If you in the LA area, go visit him at DDR project gallery.
