I have to say I really like made-to-order toys like the RxH red cat, Bigazzalon, etc. There are so many positives: everyone who wants one gets one, plus the maker can get the money up front and dealers don't have to carry the inventory. It seems like everyone wins, and it probably discourages flippers too. The only downside I see is lack of perceived "exclusivity" but no one cares much about edition size anyway, right? ;)

I for one don't care about edition sizes and having consistanly miss out on almost 90% of the exclusives here I must agree that made to order toys are appealing to me.

The downside is that there's no thrill of the chase.
If you took it to an extreme, and everything was made-to-order, it would be boring.

Not so thrilling when you start feeling like Wyle E Coyote chasing the Road Runner. I think this is only a down side if chasing is what gives you that toy high/buzz. I for one have enough trouble getting on the pre-order list as it is.
