Promised some peeps pics of my newly acquired M1 Matangos, here's the best shot:
Argh, I'm really starting to want a Mantango for my collection. Whats the story behind this monster?
they are from the '63 film, Matango: Attack of the Mushroom People.
..sweet pickups lixx! those are some great pieces.
I love the one with the Pink head.
yeah love these guys. still chasing down the customs.
I haven't seen this movie. It would be cool if Mantango attacked some hippies but they ate him and had alien visions.
Should be the other way around cuz hippies will 'smoke' them mushrooms good.
I love how the tops of their heads echo the Mutant Chaos and Dokugons.
I have the third from the left and others not pictured.
They are so cool at standard size.
I heartily agree! Pink head dude is on my list. The one to the right of the pink head dude is pretty cool, too.
RE: M1 Matangos
The one with the pink head I got on this board from jl (thanks). It's GID vinyl and was specially made for Unnon/ X-Beams store opening from what I gather. The paint job is pretty sick and after seeing it glow last night I think the pink and green paint are also GID.
I think Pickleloaf is selling a M1 Matango custom by Shapeshifter right now in the For Sale section. I'd buy it but I'm after some other things at the moment and have spent too much money lately.
Standard size Matangos are the way to go IMO. Everyone needs a big mushroom floating around on their kaiju shelves. And definitely watch the 1963 movie...classic!
Matango staring into the morning sun...
Ive never actually seen a black matango, looks really nice
This guy is one of my absolute favorite pieces - if not THE favorite - in my collection.
I regret not picking up some of the Munktiki stuff back in the day. Those Matangos are wonderful.
@---NT--- Is that a regular release or a custom ? Never seen this one before.
It's, ah, a custom I suppose. It's not a vinyl toy - it's a 14" ceramic Matango made by @Polyestercowboy. I'm not sure how many he made, but they were all uniquely glazed. I actually have two - the black one pictured, and an orange one...it's probably posted around here somewhere. I wish I had more! He also made several other kaiju-inspired ceramic sculptures...which I wish I had.
Oh great, I don't know much about ceramic. Hard to tell the difference on picture. Thanks
Currently king in the cabinet of chaos, where randomness rules the shelves!
My favorite matango, really love the "dirty paint water" colored vinyl. It fits the design so well.
That is one of the most elusive Matangos and one of the best versions, I have tried to catch one in the last few months but the prices in the secondary market are crazy.
