Anyone know anything about this new medicom ninja arashi line? Is it a repro series like the devilman? Wonder if they will do cat madala.
It is hard to say for certain, but to me they look like all new sculpts. The NA in particular is very different from the vintage figures. They seem to have the more bulky/stalky sculpt akin to some of the other Medicom figures. The weapons are also different. But boy, do they look nice. This is kinda great/sad news for me, because I love them and was incredibly excited to see those preview shots, but just another toy I don't think I will be able to get the money together to buy, especially if they do a whole series of them - which I suspect they will. Got to start working the street I guess.
I was wondering what new series was Medicom coming up with. These are amazing, I'm wondering why medicom is not offering overseas directly, licensing maybe... Can't afford them now anyways... *sigh
LOL, this thread is useless without pictures no? I'm assuming these are made to be similar to the Bandai standards, but look more like Medicom's RA line to me? Sort of what they're doing with the Tiger Mask toys, where one line is almost exact but then they have all these other RA versions.
I actually like that they are a bit different than the original Bandai versions. Makes it better for me to be able to have both the vintage ones in my collection, and still pick up these guys. Plus, I always really like to see new vintage-style sculpts rather than simple repros, adds a lot of originality, while still staying true to the feel of the original toys. I think while this may seem like a simple concept and 'easy' technique, it is actually one that is incredibly difficult to achieve, and only the best of the modern sofubi makers have mastered it.
I emailed medicom and they did confirm it was licensing. I ordered Majinsai through an agent though. Great characters. I've always loved the vintage line but was afraid to take the plunge...now I don't have to.
Sort of torn on the reissues. A majority of these are still accessible with patience. Part of the fun in collection is chasing.
Looks like they are going for the same style as the recent kamen rider series. Kind of a re-imagining of the old toys. I like that its not just a straight up repro, these are completely different sculpts. I wonder if they will do any of the un-produced villains from past the first five episodes of the show.
Here is a promotional picture I found: And some more info here: http://www.bearbrick.com/trs131224/ Hope that helps a little bit! I'm really liking how they did the hair for these guys. Pre-Order is well warrented for these.
I think it woulda been neat if they had made at least Majin Sai a mask-off figure so it could sorta go with the original Bandai mask-off Arashi!
That would be crazy, and completely amazing. Brilliant idea Sanjeev! Wonder what bizarre face they would get for under his mask though. I doubt they would do anything gruesome, but a simple villainous looking human (e.g. grinning or scowling) with a classic big scar against one of his cheeks a la classic kung fu villains or GI Joe would be pretty cool.
Huh. You're actually not far off at all, Steve! Here's how he looks under the mask...at least according to the folks at Bandai who designed this SIC (Super Imaginative Chogokin) figure:
Ha! That is really cool Sanjeev, thanks for posting it. I wouldn't go in normally for hyper-realistic figures, and the NA doesn't do much, but that opening feature on Majin sure is cool. A bit pricey, but I s'pose these aren't 'play with' toys. I would definitely go in for some bearded vinyl toys. As opposed to making his whole head a removable mask figure, I could easily seem them doing a half-mask (of the metal face) that kind of snaps on to his head, and you could have it be his real hair and skull coming out the back. Might ease up the production considerably.
Man, that split mask image is so great. Nice call on the scar & facial appearance too ultrakaiju, btw...
I agree. And it woul set him apart from his original version even more so, which is a collecting plus.
Like others have said, it's always nice to have some diversity when buying a fig that's been done before.
I regret not... Looks great! I love what Medicom is doing with these series. I wish I had enough money to pick them all up, but keeping up with the Kamen Rider/Mazinger series is about all I can handle at the moment.
Took what felt like forever for them to finally arrive. Sometimes when a pre-order is months away from arrival I just pass. Couldn't resist these guys though. The long wait was worth it.
