That's really cool and funny. The place looks much cleaner than El Farolito, but similarly cramped. I wonder what the burritos really taste like though? How autentico can you be in Berlin? Amusing that they have Anchor Steam on the menu. Nice tribute to San Francisco, but I don't think I've ever seen Anchor at any Mission taquerias. I usually get a Dos Equis amber, or if it's actually fresh, a nice aqua fresca, horchata, or tamarindo.

Pssst ... Taqueria Vallerta is better than El Farolito. Don't tell anyone.

that is cool joe. good to see some burrito action overseas. we get farolito often.

next time some skullbrainers go to farolito, come around the corner to el taco loco. you don't have to eat there, but ring the doorbell for the apartment above tacoloco and I'll buzz you up. because I live in the "el taco loco" building.

La Taqueria. Mission Near 25th. Warm fresh tortillas, perfectly marinated and grilled meats. The picante guac at the tables is good.

Down 24th a bit from Mission, about halfway to Potrero is Taqueria Vallerta, who have a street barbacoa out front most days and on warm evenings. Super-cheap, super-authentic delicious tacos. Be brave, try the lengua y asada. Off the top of my head those are the two super-sabroso places.

i love taqueria's especially street tacos. I'd eat those places anyday of the week over a more traditional mexican restaurant.

Which Cancun Joe? IMHO the one up the street towards the Excelsior is better than the one in the middle of the "mile strip." Less crowded too. The popular one has great Rancheras on the jukebox though.

but there is good mexican restaurants over here for like 20 years.
for my reference to say so - i love taco bell, ;)
maybe this is only because we dont have it ...yet.

Sorry to hear they didn't taste good. For what it's worth, burritos aren't really Mexican food. They were invented for Mexican field workers in California, according to most accounts. A portable meal. San Francisco's Mission District is generally considered the burrito capitol. Burritos are more "Mexican American" than Mexican. I only remember seeing burritos for sale once in central Mexico, and people were buying the tortas and tacos there instead. :)

We do have a nice casual German restaurant here called Suppenkuche that I go to once in a while. I doubt if it can compare to similar places in Germany, but it is very good.

    hey dean, thanxx for clarification.
funnily same story goes for this:
döner kebap, similar to a burrito - its tyrkish fast food u get every second corner in berlin,
but not available in tyrkey. very tasty too if they dont put in old rotten meat.

...still hoping for good mexican fast food, must be possible.

    german food not so good,
my first choice would be "pellkartoffeln mit quark und leinöl":
    potatoes, special oil and curd:

    bon appétit!

Mmmm, pellkartoffeln mit quark und leinöl looks fascinating. I'd love to see what that curd tastes like. Kirkland you're right about the Hof Brau ... haven't been there in years so I'd forgotten.

I was a disaster, trying to order food in Munich once. I don't really understand German so trying to order from a menu in some 500 year old restaurant was pretty comical. Well, the waiter didn't think so. I just played roulette and pointed to something. I got what I think was a cold rabbit plate with some unidentifiable cold thick sauce. Hm.

In San Francisco we don't really have proper Doner Kebab that I know of but you can get a schwerma with the meat in it ... called Gyros here.

I used to go to the one up the hill all the time when I lived over on Sweeny and Silver. I never was that stoked on El Farolito, was great when I was super ripped at 2 in the morning though. Does anyone ever go to the place on Grand St. in South SF? I cant remember the name but its a grocery with a taqueria in the back and they make tortillas there too. Awesome, best burritos I ever had in the 18 years I lived in SF. The chorizo ruled. Its the first place I go after I get off the plane nowadays.
