I won't dispute it as long as you're saying that Gargamel was the pioneer in remaking Zagora toys, right?
I dont know how I feel about the new deathra sculpt. someone scan and post the photo for discussion. PS- i love this thread.
So who is offering preorders for the two new Zagoras? Also, any specs on the height, original yen price, etc?
am I the only person who thinks removing the spikes on the back of the gargamel zagora was a mistake? I like their Zag, but Hukkokudo repro's got slightly more charm. Yet the colorways are better by gargamel, imo. the shikaruna is nice because he's not smiling. he's a monster, monster's only smile when they have human-like (and evil) intelligence.
I like the spikes, but no, I don't think it was a mistake. At first I thought it could have been sculpted by someone who just saw a picture of the front of the toy, which became more unlikely as I learned more about Gargamel. I think making the sculpting of the back thicker and more complex would have made it more difficult to achieve good translucency effects, which is what Gargamel has been all about since day one.
I would like to see less cutesy wootsey looking zags, but I do like the colors gargamel has used on them thus far.
It's hard to say whether Z is public domain or not, but I'd love to hear some clarification from someone who has more knowledge about the character's IP status.
Yeah, I'd really like to know the status of those rights as well. This sort of reminds me of how Bettie page was exploited for years until she was finally tracked down by Greg Theakston (publisher of Bettie Pages). Then with the help of, yes, Hugh Hefner, set her up with legal council and advisers to finally cash in on all the material being produced with her images and likenesses. If Zag is Public Domain then the artist should be at least given credit as Target Earth seems to be doing. But I think it's pretty reckless and wrong for people/companies to repeatedly produce anything from someone else's intellectual properties/art without having such confirmation. I guess we'll have to stay tuned.
G. Willickerz I say, "why not?". This shirakuna version looks dope on a rope as it is. I already own @ least one Hukkokudo Zag, even though the Gargamel is close to heart. imo,I'd let Hasbro do one if it was cool e-nuff,lmao!
