The one thing I will say is I wish @Rich did more open pre-order runs for toys. 1 open run and that's it per sculpt or something. I know that there is some idiot trying to sell a custom Zug for over 2k on eBay and that shit pisses @Rich off enough to not do an open run, but there is so much more upside than a toy marked up no one is going to buy:

    - Old and new fans can easily get something if they put in a little effort

    - It opens up the creativity of customizers to go hog wild across the planet

    - It weakens the after-market since now you can buy a Zug for a hair above original cost regularly vs. only limited runs that cost 3x+

Or perhaps split the baby. Maybe a limited open run but only to known collectors like those who have the coin?

i think rich said he was going to do an open run on the plague face, like the zug, but i dont know if thats still happening(i hope because its my all time favorite sculpt hes done) and i believe he also said that anyone who wants one of his bemon smoguns will get one as well so hopefully those come to fruition

Let's see. The open-run Zug especially has been used as a base for expensive customs produced specifically for sale. Can't feel good to see that.

I suspect the mini-smogun will be easy to come by while the big one will be limited and hard to find. I'm fine with that really.

I tend to find, that, most times(not always), collectors that want open runs of shit only want that because they want the sought after thing they can’t seem to get. “Everyone wins” only applies if you, yourself get in on the action, otherwise you don’t care who else wins.

The open Zug/Sludge preorder was a great idea, in my opinion, even with the influx of customs.

I think to elaborate on what Robert has just said. It really comes down to the collector. What kind of collector you are. Because everyone collects differently. I’m not a multiple of the same sculpt guy (now I can say this till I’m blue in the face but my kumon collection states otherwise) but I tend to try and collect a majority of characters that I like for the specific artist rather than the same sculpt over and over. I think open runs are great! However I didn’t get in on the zug mainly because I don’t like the “meat” marble style. I collect what I love and know I’m more than likely going to keep in my collection for the long haul. Now some. I’d say most people are the “ I need this now and every version of this and the rarest versions of this NOW” collectors. Those are the big spenders wasting away on eBay to get the rarest thing out making it ok to sell an open run blank for 3x retail because hey I didn’t do my research and I need that toy ASAP and I’ll sell it for even more when I figure out I don’t want it because hey why not. Kinda like these new doji. Don’t get me wrong I love a lot of what Rich does. But sometimes the paint or even the marble colors used don’t float my boat so hey I’ll wait for another version down the road and steady the course.

I guess bottom line is it’s always gonna come down to what kind of collector are you? Open run?? Sweet but if you don’t like it Are you still buying. One off??? Sweet but if You don’t like it Are you getting it just to use as triad bait. Limited to 3,5,10,30,50 whatever if it’s rad in my eyes then I’m in and if not then I’m out. I’m not sore because I know I didn’t like it anyway. You can see who appreciates what. All those new plague face zugs that everyone “needed” being traded behind closed doors. Objects being purchased just to use for trade bait or just because it’s the in demand thing.

As far as asking for rich to do open runs on every sculpt. Well that ship has sailed. I think he did that early on with a bunch of DX. Unfortunately a lot of us were not around. Or at least I wasn’t but the key is to be patient, now we have a bootlegging problem so any sculpt getting the open run treatment will also be getting the bootlegged forever treatment (but they will get it reguardless). Hey I waited 4 years for my first SAM dx and I’m perfectly happy with the one I have. Be patient. Be polite. Be prosperous!

Good points. And yeah, I believe the BLObPUS DX figures, Dokugan and 6-Eye at least, were open runs.

Wouldn't an open run of a DX (for example) just completely retard whatever sales momentum that bootlegger guy has? I know people are starting to consider buying chinese bootlegs because they can't get a DX these days... if there was an open run blank offer then of course everyone would buy directly from Rich in a heartbeat.

I've definitely seen photos of that pink Flying Freak on IG lately that don't look like the real thing. You're right about fighting bootleg sales but then you wonder where a strong reactive stance like that would stop. There's plenty of demand for Ollies, and even within DX there are so many sought-after heads. Someone foaming at the mouth for a DX, who'd buy a bootleg because they can't get at the real thing, is probably willing to buy a counterfeit Ollie or Berserker as well. Is it worth putting out an open DX run when people will still support that asshole's fake Ollies? Is it worth the time and work Rich would have to put into open runs of multiple sculpts to put a serious dent in counterfeiting? These are hard considerations and there's no automatic right answer.

For me, the important thing is that counterfeits don't go around effectively masquerading as the real thing, so people who want to actually invest in the brand don't support bootleggers unwittingly. Someone who wants to do this the right way should be able to find resources and knowledge, even if they are hard to find, that lets them go legit only. Otherwise there will always be guys who care less about art than image, and any unprincipled hypebeast with no patience will support counterfeits at one point or another.

One thing I’m seeing here is the lack of understanding for what your asking for.

To just say “ yeah open orders” like it’s no big deal to do is getting so frustrating.

All other factors aside, just focing on pulling vinyl for open orders is daunting. All factories I’ve ever used, and even more so now with Dennis is a one (or if they are lucky for a single day) two man operatoion.

The factory ( Dennis alone pulling vinyl) does not revole around me and it’s crazy for me or any fan of both me and dennis( Dennis especially) to ask him to stop all other production and focus on pulling my vinyl for weeks.

As an artist I would not want to be the one clogging up the works so a small group of people who have no understanding or worse do and don’t care can get a toy they need to have now. That’s not fair to everyone else.

I learned to order amounts of vinyl that are good for me, the collectors and the factory. These are the reason for my runs sizes. I also order them apart from each other so that I’m not asking too much of Dennis or other factories.

This is it, the people that are being selfish and aren’t giving a shit about the people I work with can easily move on to another brand. I’m never gonna change my ordering because you need it now. I have to much repect for who pulls my vinyl and other artist than your complaints. Real fans wouldn’t be so selfish and time wouldn’t matter. Collecting is a long term hobby, is not a need it now thing. If you are fiends with any real collector you’d see they hunt for toys for years and don’t freak out.

If I ever said I’d do some release in the past and then didn’t follow through it’s for good reason. I like every single other artist doesn’t need to disclose every single reason for every move made. If you collect my stuff all I ask if your trust on what I’m doing and enjoy the art instead of what’s going on behind the scenes.

    Lastly, bootlegs.

This is it, I will NEVER make release dicessions based on what they do. Just because I don’t talk about it here on skullbrain doesn’t mean I haven’t talked to other artist, industry or close friends and family about it. In the end if you want to buy cheap garbage because you need it ASAP that’s on you. I will not change my work based on what a bootlegger does.

Pre Orders, a list below for those who are in their feelings that Rich might opt, to not do another. look how many items were offered at pre order. If you didn't take advantage of them, or simply weren't around, it does not mean that over 20 pieces of MVH were offered at pre order.

    Ollie:
    - Kickstarter was pretty much a open order of 1 offs to get the thing made.
you actually can go back still and look.
$300 got you a one off ollie/sludge demon set
    https://www.kickstarter.com/project...ster?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=ollie
    - Invisaollie which could yield the standard yellow/orange guts, green/purple guts, or green/purple + half painted pre order. $150
    - The fleshy/micro glitter gid pre order($275 battle set with Krawluss)
    - Skullbrain Set. clear orange glitter and painted, along with a Death Head DX to match. there was a option for unpainted, doubt anyone took the option... I believe 3 sets of unpainted at Bloody Sabbath at Death's Vault

    Enma:
    - Red painted by BlobPus pre order $130 roughly
    - GID painted by BlobPus pre order $140 roughly
    - Green painted by BlobPus pre order $140 roughly
    - Blue painted by BlobPus pre order $140 roughly
    - Black painted by BlobPus pre order $140 roughly

    Doji San;
    - Orange
    - Black

    Krawluss:
    - Fleshy micro glitter gid stand alone $150 ($275 battle set with ollie) pre order
    - Skinner painted orange pre order $250

    Sludge Demon:
    - Meats $65 ($250 set with Zug)

    DX:
    Dokuro:
    - Orange pre order
    - Black pre order
    - Glow (gift if bought both black and orange dokuro/death head)
    - BlobPus painted pre order roughly $95 ($180 set with Death head)

    Death Head:
    - Orange pre order
    - Black pre order
    - BlobPus painted pre order roughly $95 ($180 set with Dokuro)
    - Skullbrain Set. clear orange glitter and painted, along with a Ollie to match. there was a option for unpainted, doubt anyone took the option... I believe 3 sets of unpainted at Bloody Sabbath at Death's Vault

    6 eyed:
    - BlobPus pre order roughly roughly $98 ($194 set with Doku)

    Doku (Blobpus head):
    - BlobPus painted pre order rought roughly $98 ($194 set with 6 eyed)

    Zug:
    - Meats $200 ($250 set with Sludge Demon)

if you can think of others let me know. or pricing... i didn't jump on the first DX pre orders in black/orange. I had opt'd to chase Ollies at that time.

Still kicking myself on the InvisiOllie. I was around for that.
I just missed those orange and black DX pre-orders....STUPID. STUPID.

I did jump on the Ollie/Krawluss set. $275 for that much vinyl is obscene nowadays.
