Man, Gargamel really did kill it this year, huh? I bet being there to see all these beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces in person was like attending an art exhibition, ... well, without the pushing & yelling that is
Agreed, this year seemed a little different to me because 90% were standard size and clear with guts. It made me want to get in there and really look at the details on most of these. A lot of them(not all) didn't have big bold colors like they usually do, but instead had really unique guts detailing and subtle sprays were edges disappeared into the clear vinyl. It was interesting to see how Gargamel changed it up to give us something new.
Yes and no, because roughly 70 per cent of what was put out each morning was sold in about 30 minutes of opening. You had to look hard and fast! Would love to see them have a display in future, where you could just look at stuff all weekend long.
Artists who keep pushing their talents & challenging themselves will always be the best... Just from looking at pictures of all these intricately detailed & sculpted figures, it's so clear that just as much care was put into the various hp color & detail on the inside, as the out. And those damn guts, jeez, they seem to mesh so well, that it appears like they organically grew into their skin! ... Definitely the type of work collectors cherish, and that rarely resurfaces. Ha, I like to think even flippers (they flip, its what they do) changed their motives after picking up a Gargamel piece this year
Seems as though no one has mentioned the sick stuff they're doing for the anniversary show. Awesome! Here is one image of the army of customs! Plus looks like a special show Mibora will be out too.
Mind blowing. Clears + GID guts with candy like paint apps makes a very appealing combination. I have always avoided clear white/transparent vinyl for my toys, BUT, these will be very hard to resist.
Damn.. being in neither japan or the usa for these Gargamel custom shows really stings. So happy to see they are keeping that Thrashout shows going, red with guts zag is beautiful!
i think with so many being made, there will surely be leftovers for other distribution channels afterward. only thing is the best pieces should be gone by then.
Personally I find those GID/clear/pastel/florescent figures to be hideous. They remind me of paint apps on another figure (I'm thinking Secret Base?), which I also didn't care for - garish in all the wrong ways. And in general the paint on clear just doesn't look quite right - too heavy handed and the paint doesn't even make the sculpt pop. Looking around my room at the clear toys with paint I see a lot of subtlety but on these figures the colors just kinda blend together into a messy mishmash with no definition. I like the legs on that teal zag with the red toes and yellow ankles, but aside from those two limbs I'm not seeing anything I like. GID, clear, and guts do not equate to automatic wins. I'd be interested to know which ones Naoya did, because generally I think he's the best painter at G.
