At the opposite end of the spectrum, I also saw the link on mfisn.com. Norton Fighter definitely has a viral (haha) appeal to it.

    Fantastic!

    I particularly love:

--The closing graphic, very old-school header card.

--The editing - The shot of Hiderinko zooms out from his bowtie, since a bowtie indicates his role of intellect. The shot of Saeko then zooms out from her booty, since a booty indicates her role of ... well ... booty.

--The minion virus who does not get the distinction between unsolicited Viagra emails and canned processed pork by-products. (Though I wondered why that bit was here at all - would a 'spam' reference to a Japanese audience still require this explanation?)

--"This is why I don't use a wireless mouse"

--Botlas' costume - at first I thought the plates on his torso were made of those flipover desk calendars with the upside-down-U shaped bars. It would have been funny to have his armor made of office supplies as protective coloration - predators do like to blend into the background till they pounce. His whole costume has a great samurai armor X Imperial stormtrooper feel.

    --The cheesy, brassy 70's-TV-action-scene music

So Data, is there a hidden shoutout there to SB's Hiddy in naming the boy Hiderinko, or does the syllable 'Hid' mean something similar in both names? (Or just a coincidence?)

Is there any cultural or other significance to the the odd fists-up-and-forward Lucky Cat pose that Saeko strikes when the nerds take her photo, and again when she's welcoming the virus 'home'? (And, she puts on glasses in the office as a 'disguise,' I assume)

Where would one see this in Japan? Is it on TV?

Sorry for all the questions - the cultural assumptions behind different countries' advertising are fascinating, I think.

When Botlas says "We will use them ... to create Chaos" I had a momentary image of them all enslaved at the vinyl factory, spray-painting the next RxH release. Thanks as always for the link - I'll be on the edge of my seat until I know Hiderinko and Saeko are safe!

spam as a word for junk mail is in sporadic use here in Japan - spam as a pork by-product is fairly well known but some people perhaps haven't made the connection that both phrases share the same origin. basically its an opportunity for Botlas to spell out what bots do.

the costume rules, it was almost a fluke they picked the white coloring for him but it totally rules...

there are no REPEAT no shout-outs to Hiddy in anything I do.

you answered your own question pretty much - with the Lucky cat pose. When you enter a maid bar they don't scream 'irashaimase' (welcome) like most places in Japan they say 'welcome home master' technically with her character the maid costume is a disguise she is the daughter of Dr. Kitajima who also created Norton Fighter. she has some powers of her own which will come out in further story lines. She basically hangs out in maid cafes eavesdropping on hackers. Hiderinko was actually created by the director - Dicky Chalmers (his real name) who wrote the script, directed and films AND edited the whole thing. bloody genius.

nope just on youtube - basically a viral movie.

tonight I am enslaved creating more mini-bots for the events in Osaka tomorrow.
(while I am tooting my own horn I also made the cheesy flying pose Norton fighter which shows up at the end - there is a Yamanaya flying pose Ultraman under there - felt weird to buy a cool toy and immediately trash it - now I know how you customizers must feel)

That was awesome. I was totally reminded of my childhood years watching Go Rangers (Himitsu Sentai Goranger), J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai, Uchuu Tetsujin Kyodain and others....and then they were all banned thanks to Ferdinand Marcos (along with video games..coin ops...there was a thing called a video arcade back then).

On a side note: here's a clip of viral advertising and a bunch of power rangers. You may not be a sneakerfreak or a fan of Nike, but this is still pretty funny.
