been following the "tiny windows thread" - pretty cool. what i wanted to know for long, whats the skyscraper in lower manhattan stone facade that has no windows at all. when u go down west broadway coming from canal street its left hand side, maybe on church street...
I'm guessing youre referring to this one. Its an AT&T building and it radical in it's evil empireness. From: http://www.nyc-architecture.com/SOH/SOH026.htm
thats right by my old highschool, from my junior year to graduation there were three jumper suicides in the buildings near the pink box. i saw 2 of them happen myself, spooky ass place.
thanks abe!!! ...thats it - interesting to know what it is. kind of crazy to build a tech building in lower manhattan.
Well, a one point in the world Lower Manhattan was just the place where Wall Street and City Government Offices were. So it makes sense. I had a high school job in 1984/85 right nearby for a city agency. Worth Street near Church Street used to be FILLED with office equipment stores and such. And many of the mail order electronic retailers had fronts out there as well. And Church Street itself was filled with weird discount stores and radio stores. So yeah, it's weird now, but makes sense in context. I don't know about this building, but there is a similar faceless building on West 54th Street near 10th Avenue that HUMS at night. I assume it hums during the day as well, but when it's quieter at night it almost sounds like a gigantic static electric buzz.
