Seems kinda OCD and freaky to me, but then I collect stupid vinyl figures... ----------------- Lawrence Cobbold, 38, collects bird tchotchkes -- bird ornaments, bird thimbles, bird refrigerator magnets, bird mugs, bird pictures, bird jigsaw puzzles. He really really digs birds. His collection of more than 20,000 bird-related items takes up his entire home near Plymouth, England. The Plymouth Herald profiled Cobbold: On average he spends two hours before work and two hours at night rearranging, tidying and cleaning… He has been collecting ornaments, paper weights, pictures and thimbles for over 25 years and estimates that altogether the treasures could be worth up to £40,000. He said: "What I pay for them and what they're worth to me are two different things. It's turned into an obsession. I've always worked full-time, I do as much overtime as I can. I just want to show where my money goes, and I like looking at them." Lawrence can spend up to £500 on ornaments at charity shops and car boot sales. In total Lawrence has 15,000 ornaments, 4,800 thimbles, 1,000 fridge magnets and about 300 plates. He has also collected 300 pictures, 150 mugs and 100 jigsaws, all connecting in some way to birds. Lawrence's collections take over every room in his house, cupboards, loft and shed, and each room has a different theme. http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/Man-20- ... story.html
I just want to show where my money goes, and I like looking at them. this line says it all to me, thanks for the share I LOVE seeing collections that have differant aims than mine, the other day I kinda spaced out at random and thought I would love to see someone with a collection of novelty sunglasses
We met a guy yesterday with two houses of 1" pins/buttons and the walls were made of corkboard so he could display them...pretty much a never-ending collection because you can put anything on buttons and they've been coming out for nearly two centuries....seemed like a good collection to me because how many times have you started collecting toys, then when they've stopped coming out sold them all off and moved on to something new? Both these guys won't have that problem!
I think we collectors like to look at these guys and say "thank god I'm not that crazy collector guy." But I think the general public looks at us and sees... that guy.
^ I look at it and hope I don't become that guy in 10-20. I agree others view us as similar but not to the extreme.
His dedication in his hobby is unquestionable. Any collection of such scale is quite a sight. I hope to see someone here post a whole collection shot of more than 20,000 pieces of vinyl toys one day.
