He is on the teevee show "Sons of Anarchy" which is good for fans of "The Shield" and "The Wire" (1st episode of season 2 was this past Tuesday on FX..) Lot's of potential. Tried to revive the older "the wire" thread and couldn't find it so please forgive me. I also read an article about the writers of the show who were dissing NBC and network TV for not taking chances on "written" shows as opposed to reality teevee bullshit... Peggy Bundy as an O.G. Biker Mama..
Re: Henry Rollins is a neo-Nazi Skinhead?! SAMCRO rules..... this season is very promising especially with how the season opener ended..... revenge is best served cold.
Re: Henry Rollins is a neo-Nazi Skinhead?! Did anyone catch LIPS from Anvil as an extra in S2E2 ? Good to see him picking up some extra work that doesn't entail porting lunch food in Canadian snow. BTW - we should turn the name of this thread into The Official SOA thread. The show has definitely grown on me, still nowhere near the calibur of The Shield, but still good. FX needed a replacement and this works just fine. Also if you want to see Jax in his original role as a Brit College boy, check out Apatows old show "Undeclared." The whole season is available on YouTube. Guaranteed to please.
Re: Henry Rollins is a neo-Nazi Skinhead?! Just catching up with Season 1 and was hooked after the first 5 mins. The first three episodes definitely have some of the sharpest writing I've seen on TV. Loved the snappy small talk between Gemma & Darby outside of the hospital in ep. 3 when she's trying to keep him from leaving before Clay and the gang arrive...
Official SOA Thread Hey redblueyellow! did you watch this week? Wanna change your statement about it not being as good as the Shield? ((ok maybe not that far yet, but....fingers crossed)) Michael Chiklis ain't got shit on Opie. Opie is my new hero.
Why didn't she shoot him? I almost pulled the heater out and shot him thru the teevee screen my self ! Vic Mackey woulda shot him......... twice........without thinking about it....
That really made no sense to me!! Oh, wait he has kids? Oh, I can't shoot this rotten fuck in the back of the head now, but he raped me for a few straight hours and is taunting me by sending me the damn mask.....BANG, BANG, BANG, etc. Just shooting him wouldn't have been enough for me. I'm sure something will happen, but when????????????????
thats what I keep thinking too when I see this thread....I actually bought that when it came out, I'm old. I lost the cover when I was xeroxing it for a fanzine review.
I thought the same thing Yet I love SOA. The truth is the person singing on the cover of that 7" is in the show this season. Worlds colliding. I love it. Uncle hank loooks OLD.
Re: Official SOA Thread At this point (imo) it's still not in the same league / calibur of "The Shield." We're talking about a show where in the very first episode you see a slightly edgy cop drama turn into a dark/violent/crooked cop - ALL OUT WAR! Mackie shoots one of his partners dead in the face at the end of episode 1. There aren't too many shows that I've seen that have had such a long lasting impact. That's some cold blooded _ _ _ _ + one thing that bothers me with the characters in SOA is that they're not GRIMEY enough. When I think stereotypical motorcycle dudes, I don't necessarily think of the SOA crew. But it's a fun show and it has potential. I like the direction of "new breed" the show is heading in. Rant over. Also, When Peggy Bundy had the 9mm and was about to cap Rollins I kept thinking to myself, "Why doesn't she have a silencer on that thing?" and rather than do it out in the open why didn't she just give him a final resting place in the JON? Personally I'm glad she didn't off him. I'm sure Rollins has some serious torture coming his way
SOA ain't no Shield, but it's worth watching. The Shield wasn't perfect and got kinda silly around season 4-5, Mackey running around avoiding the latest antagonist and never getting caught. Then finally it takes a really dark turn with one of the lead characters. But back to SOA, it's basically "Hamlet" with bikers (nothing wrong with that) from my perspective. Jax reminds me of Cobain. Basically Hamlet with the notebook (skull/voice) of is dead father's ghost/past which causes him to question what is going on. Katey Sagal is great and her character is filled with nuance where she plays the loving earth mother to Jax when she is a viper and probably had his father killed and is now with the "uncle". Ron Perlman seems miscast as Clay and doesn't seem as intimidating and cold blooded as I would want. What I can't stand is that usually they'll have these big rides of 50-100 bikers and then cut to 5-6 principle characters on the street. Where did all of the other bikers go to? Could never explain that.
...I hear you guys.. thought the same thing about the biker gang. Wonder what club they are using for the b-footage? H.A.? Mongols are done right? And I would like to revise my earlier quote based on the I FART A LOT factor of not killing the bad guy (it was really an "Oh No, moment.A divergence from Shield writing or The Wire writing. Like you said, Vic Mackey dropped a fellow officer in episode 1.. not gritty enough fo' sho' but...they are appealing to the audience that thinks good tattoos come from L.A. Ink.....
hella quick to get rid of a core character... This crew needs to man up. Did you notice they called the white power people the A.B. ? That is a REAL gang being called out on t.v........ Are the 1-Niners real ?
I put my money on Chibs living. The series doesn't seem intense enough to kill him off (like other shows) and the cast isn't that big. One-Niners are a fictional gang based on the Crips and the Bloods.
I agree - I was kind of expecting more out the character as well as his acting. He's supposed to be Zobelle's right hand guy right? I don't feel like they've made Weston out to be much more than one of the other white separatists. It seems like it's a lot of the "the van is in place", "yes sir" sort dialogue from him and not much more. It's killing me the way they're building up to a climax this season though. And I thought it was a nice twist that Opie was the only core member from the group last night that didn't wind up behind bars. A little separation might do him some good...or not. I'm trying to figure out what the hell the IRA guys are up to. Is this gonna be another thing that bites SAMCRO in the ass, or will they be part of Zobelle's demise?
I concur. The plotlines seem too obvious with each moving episode and while what they are trying accomplish is suspense, it's a bit draggy? Unless however, they are purposely doing it to keep us focused on the SOA vs Zobelle/Nazi group plotine, just so they can Benicio Del Toro "Flip it for Real". One storyline I've been thinking about is the tension between Jax and Clay. I think the cliffhanger might be that Clay takes a bullet! or maybe they'll postpone it once its revealed that Gemma/Clay had something to do with Jax's fathers death. I think its time Jax took the reigns. I think Opie flying off the deep end is an expected given, that won't happen. Call me crazy, but I'm thinking CLAY is a goner! ...anyone else
Nice analysis. I think Rollins part wasn't written for him. Probably written for your run of the mill skin head actor, not your punk rock hardcore d.c. legend. (which is funny b/c Greg Ginn just moved out here to central Texas and lives in a warehouse in a rusted old city....) So was that the Eff Up that knocks Clay off the pedestal?
