also from the Vinylpulse blog - Mark Nagata's take on Tripasu. Interesting way of debuting a new character - with 2 new sculpts at the same time. Unique.

    Yup.

I'm not a Le Merde fan, eventhough I think he is a great artist. Brandt Peters and Kathie Olivas obviously have their own style, but it's boring to me. Bwana's cool too but, eh. I don't care for these at all. Don't know who that other artist mentioned is.

I think that when S7 branches out into the Western sphere (think: Neo Kaiju series), the toys look nice, but are never anything that I would personally collect. To each their own, though.

I think I like it better than Cronic's version.

LeMerde vinyl ... cool. I really wanna see that rosebud-head figure!

Except it's not Tripasu. Someone at VP needs to check their facts before posting, because this is like the fourth time someone has posted thinking that that toy is Tripasu.

I am honestly curious as to the story behind Tripasu and Tripus. I can only assume they are related characters. Hopefully Mark will give us some insight when Tripus is released to non-attendees.

As for then new S7 line from western artists, also not for me. I actually did like the Neo Kaiju project, and it was pretty ground-breaking for its time (I would expect to see something like that more today than in '06). But I can see how this new line would appeal to a broader spectrum of people than the board denizens...

EDIT: I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but Tripus is standard size, not fight-figure. So they will be REALLY different side by side.

okay regardleas...tripasu/tripus they are incredibly similar and cool. For the next few days all of these posts are going to seem crazy and jumbled since we didn't go.

Both Tripasu and Tripus would be rendered トライパス (TO-RA-I-PA-SU) in katakana.
Maybe its just a variation in anglisizing the Japanese?
Course Naoki's has feet and Marks has tentacles...

It seems pretty deliberate on Mark's part. I doubt he would make a mistake like that since he presumably named Tripus and he designed the header for Tripasu.

I was thinking about the translation for Tripus. They could spell it literally as To-Ri-Pu-Su, so as to avoid confusion.

I believe both the Tripasus were designed by Mark Nagata. The one done with Cronic was sculpted by Naoki. It`s a really nice figure.

The spelling for the MT/Cronic figure comes (I believe) from the Trip + Asu (which you see in a lot of Cronic figures - comes from his wife`s name: Asuka). So it`s pretty deliberate - not an accident or spelling mistake.

I`d love to see the MT Tripus in person.

Read it elsewhere ( I think in this thread? Gargamel thread? ) - you spend $200.00 you get a trashman.

Does anyone want pictures of anything in particular? I tend to take a lot of pictures, so posting them all is sort of overkill...I'll try to post/take pics of other stuff too if people want it...(costumes, non-vinyl booths, etc)
