I am all about starting a new rumor saying cyanide can cure the Covid...
In a way, it actually does...

Son of Monsterpalooza officially cancelled today because of the Delta variant and current climate with covid....
For some reason that sting particularly. Maybe the fires, the coming election here in CA and those long long long months of covid just hit hard today.
    Damned...
My main practice and the main reason for me to come live in the US was dancing. I was pretty involved in the community and have been dancing 5 to 10 hours every week since over a decade. New me is glued to different screens all day and only see about 8 different people a week in person. I know it is much more social contact than most and it is sooo little for me who's used to go move and sweat with up to hundred people at least once a week. Danced open for a second at the beginning of the summer before closing again when Delta arrived. It s like life lost its taste. I sometime wake up confused about what I am living for. Dance was it and I am still rebooting my system to adapt to its absence.
I've not been able to travel to see my family either. It's been almost 2 years I ve not seen my mother nor my father nor my brother nor any of my childhood friends. I know people who live like that and feel good on their own or hate their family. I used to go spend a few weeks in Europe every 6 months and not being able to move back makes me feel lost. I mean... I love it here and while the nature, when not burning, is beautiful and wild, California's cities are so ugly. US town are young and ugly to my European eyes (the town I am born is 1500 years old and feels like it, the city I am living in is 150 years old and feels like it too). I need to see old bricks to feel like things makes sense. I realized that the first time I went travelling long time ago.
Mmmh dunno if this belongs here or anywhere else on this forum... As I am spending more time here and toys and people liking them have been my main community since Covid it feels like it does to me. Hope that's ok.
    Enjoy your week-end and such.

Move out of CA, Florida and Texas seem to be wide open if your looking for total freedoms where people are living like the Wild West. People are living their lives like usual is most cities though.

Three weeks ago went to Medieval Times in New Jersey, then NYC to get tattooed then last week to see Tom Segura at the casino here in CT. Three states, all times maskless , with the comedy show and medieval times being sold out packed shows of hundreds or people. Didn’t catch Covid. I’m also half vaxed at the moment ( but pretty sure I had it early on training bjj , which is still train as well )

This is life now, and if your gonna wait for it to end or go back to normal it’s never gonna happen and your life will be over.

And the US is not ugly, it’s just not Europe or old. The US is a beautiful place that has some wild cities of grunge to stunning canyons and shores. If your looking for something close to Europe your not gonna find that on the west coast, barely here in New England either. Just accept the US for what weird place it is :)

So we’re ok with wishing death to people because they don’t want to take a vax ? Jesus Christ when did this become ok ?

Up until Covid no one had issues with people not getting the flu shot, or other vaccines , then hoping they got sick and died from it If they did catch it. Or shaming them for not getting it. Up till
now flu has been very real killing thousands each year, AND children … which Covid has close to zero deaths from ( this is from the CDC, not me making it up) Now it’s ok to wish them death ? I’m seeing this sentiment more and more across the internet and it’s really weird and and fucked.

I started taking the vax, but I know a lot of people who refuse to take it no matter what and I would never actively hope they get sick and die even still.

I don't hope sickness on anyone. However, we've been locked down making sacrifices for the greater good while these "freedom fighters" are convinced of total nonsense and refuse on principle to take a vaccine and further promote opening up where we continue to see spread that makes real world consequences for the rest of us. This tropical storm hits and 40 people die and it is considered a tragedy while we are seeing 1,000 covid deaths a day.

A DAY! tell me about a tragedy. Sorry, I don't with bad things on anybody but the very idea that we aren't clearly affected by people who choose their own personal idea of freedom over the community is insane. 1,000 a day!

I'm sorry, but as someone living in a state where we are currently grappling with the twin possibilities of (another) statewide lockdown and hospitals at overcapacity, I have a hard time sitting by and listening to this misinformed rhetoric on these boards.

Rich, I express no opinion on why or whether you want to get vaccinated, or how you live your life otherwise, but please stop spreading misleading information and encouragement of reckless behavior on these boards. The ultimate lesson of COVID to me, is that we need to consider the effects of our choices on others, rather than try to rationalize our choice to live as we please.

I would also encourage all of us to take a step back and resist the Internet argument allure of undertaking the COVID vaccination debate. I don't think it is really beneficial to the purpose of this thread (which was originally updates on the COVID situation) or the health of the board in general.

I hate to break it to you, but no amount of staying home is gonna change anything either. This pandemic will never go away. It’s gonna be like this forever, there will be variations regularly. Your staying home following rules doesn’t make you ( the general you , not you exactly ) or anyone any better than those than don’t want to take basically an experimental drug just yet. Some people ( me my wife , parents etc) will take the shot, but many just won’t and I’m not gonna force them. If we are truly supposed to go by the science then we’re safe and what others do won’t affect us. Get the shot your good, and let others choose what they want to do for themselves. And if they get sick take care of them so they don’t die even still.

Plus that fact that going again by the cdc numbers for pure Covid deaths the vast majority of people will survive this and are willing to risk it which again only adds to people not wanting to take the shot.

If we’re looking at numbers even 1000 deaths a day isn’t shit compared to heart disease from obesity and other factors people do to themselves daily. With all we know about diet obesity is still a huge factor. Same for smoking. I literally watched someone buying a carton of cigarettes with her mask on to g o outside and immediately light up. Which is insane. So let’s not act like the majority of people or our government really care about deaths. And more so deaths compared to infections have dropped with treatments. This is another reason why so many won’t take the shot. Plus many people going back generations have zero trust for what our government tells them take, which if hard to argue with.

Again, I’m for the vax, go for it. But many aren’t, and I don’t think they are selfish or dumb. And it is America, it is their freedom to choose what they want to put in their body. It’s not up to me to force or guilt them into something along comfortable with.

Just my opinion, take it for what it’s worth, zero.

Again, I’m not anti vax, I’m for it, I’m vaccinated, so is my wife and parents, hell most of my family and friends.

Fair enough I’ll definitely not take part in this conversation any more. I haven’t posted here in quite some time and didn’t think maybe this conversation has happened already. However I’m not insinuating people not get the shot. I’m for it. Just so we’re clear and all.

We can have regular fair debate here (though I sort of concur maybe it is best left off the board) but as long as we keep it civil and logical, otherwise we on the cusp of starting something that is in danger of getting shut down.

I will say a couple follow up points for general consideration.
    • coronavirus does not care about borders or completely random political boundaries. If there is anything the last 20 months have taught us it should be this; any attitude which is focused on region-centric impacts or solutions is never going to get us anywhere.
    • We are living at age of height of misinformation currently, both intentional and otherwise; the current pandemic has highlighted how easy it can be to affect social opinions in one way or another, which is a bit frightening. We should all take this opportunity to reflect on things we are exposed to with critical thinking, facts, and sources. When found to be lacking, false information should be called out for what it is.
    • it is a completely false analogy to compare contraction of Covid-19 to things like heart disease, cancer, etc. These are things which develop over years and there is no cure/prevention for. If we collectively had the methods to also prevent people from dying from these diseases, it would be stupid not to apply them.
    • Even if you have been fully vaccinated you can completely still pass on the virus to other people who might be more vulnerable and have not been vaccinated; community immunisation is not about any one individual, it is about protecting everyone. The whole debate about I want to get vaccinated or I don't want to get vaccinated because I am healthy/will get over it/etc., has nothing to do with your own level of internal strength, exposure, etc. Looking at it that way, and I can have 'freedom' because I have been vaccinated is acting purely selfishly. [and this cycles right back to point one]

    THIS.

I wish more people had even the most basic understanding of public health and communicable diseases. Anyone who attempts to make false equivalencies between infectious disease and anything but (they're all over the internet) clearly have no idea what they're talking about.

    So very much this.

Also, not clear on how making a joke about dumb people voluntarily ingesting potentially lethal diy "cures" equates to "wishing death" on the unvaccinated but okay... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It’s always this issue of “unalienable rights” that people misunderstand. This idea that people have a right to do as they please such as take the vaccine. Something that is a health crisis that can be easily transmitted to others. Why, because “freedom” or “my rights.” Rights are inherently community based which is why the founding fathers note the role of government directly after noting rights as unalienable. The role of government is to protect the rights of the people who live there. How do you protect those rights? Political institutions. How do you figure out where my rights end and yours begin? Political institutions. It is about proportionality not some “absolute sense” of rights.

The idea that the new normal is 1,000s die a day for something that preventable due to dissent based on absolute rights is insane. Aside from the death toll this changes our ability to conduct normal communal life. That isn’t a solution.

The vaccine was built on a decade of virology research into novel coronaviruses. I work for a life sciences company that makes the equipment used in this research. Rich, this is a scare-mongering notion, and if you repeat it, or go along with it when other people say it as justification of not getting the vaccine, you're being part of the problem.

At this point in the pandemic, we have twenty months of data that shows lockdowns, masks, and vaccines have all had positive effects on fighting this virus. As of today over 40 million doses of the vaccines are being administered every day worldwide. People have been taking the various vaccines for over eight months, and at this point they have demonstrated that they are safe.

If someone isn't wiling to take a vaccine, then they should rely on the other two methods (reducing their social activities and consistently wearing masks consistently when they do have to go out) in order to help curb the spread of the disease. The problem is that the most visible of the people who are vaccine-hesitant don't seem to think these other two things are important and are very vocal about it.

The reality of the vaccine-hesitant is that they will all eventually cave in when they are faced with something they really want to do (like attend an event, or travel, or just continue to be employed) and they have to be vaccinated in order to do it. I have a half dozen friends who refused to be vaccinated previously who eventually caved in. I don't want to see laws trying to fix this, I think consistent social and economic pressure will work.

^THIS, exactly, and it's getting real, real old. Thank you, Rog. Was Maddie's remark above harsh? Yes. But I get it, and I give it leeway. We're all fucking exhausted from this mess. You know what else is harsh? A whole bunch of people proudly behaving like assholes, denying science and the effectiveness of these methods because of a YouTube video their brother (not a doctor) told them about, and putting the vulnerable (including my unvaccinated grade schooler) at risk. Harsh is the fact that right now in Oklahoma, emergency rooms are flooded with unvaccinated people who got COVID and then OD'd on fucking horse dewormer to try to treat it... thus delaying care for people with serious emergency need of treatment, like car accident and gunshot victims. Just brutally stupid.

This is the sentiment I was trying to get across, that we are so fucking tired of hearing this parroted idiocy of anti-science horseshit (or should I say horse dewormer?) that we might as well just hold up our hands and say “go, fuck yourself up with weird meds. I can’t care anymore.”
Sorry but the way I cope with shitty things is with really dark humor.

If life never gets back to "normal" you can take it to the bank that it's because anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers are doing everything they can to keep us in the mud. Freedumb.
