snowboarding should not be an Olympic sport. Was there no rich kids parental lobby to get sk8 boarding into the summer games or sk8r's were just keeping it real? BTW fuck the olympics anyways. they took away civil liberties in Canada for this farcical. Canadians BY LAW cannot put an Oympic protest sign in their own yard?!? The protesters were drawing attention to the Olympics being a big real estate scam in B.C. by the usual suspects. (rich thieving bastards)
If you don't like it that's fair but it seems like an incredibly naive opinion to say "fuck the olympics," because of something like that. But that's just me. I don't walk around with a conspiracy chip on my shoulder hating the "rich" and I honestly don't pay to much attention to the Olympics. As far as snowboarding? Why not? It takes just as much skill or training as some of the events. A lot of times the Olympics has gone through several phases and chosen sports or events that were current for the times. Look back at some of the weirder events: Pidgeon shooting, Rope climbing, tug-o-war, synchronized solo swimming? (I actually didn't know of all these I just googled it.) I don't know if snowboarding will be an Olympic sport forever but it fits the current climate in my opinion.
I've never played, but I do want to. I've played plenty of shuffleboard in my day though. Best. Game. Ever.
"The Olympics have a history of leaving host cities in debt, and relocating the poor and homeless away from the sanitized corridors of host cities," The Christian Science Monitor noted on Friday. "Vancouver is no exception." Indeed, the games have cost the city well over $6 billion in unexpected spending, even though the initial public cost projection were less than $700 million. <----- rich thieving bastards no conspiracy here just plain ol math What we do to the least of our brothers we do to ourselves. ---something like that. Go Coca Cola! Go Visa! Go American Brand Names! Yeah! http://rawstory.com/2010/02/olympics-pr ... s-violent/
that is poor planning on the part of Vancouver, not the Olympics themselves. If they went over their budget by $6 billion dollars then I think people should be outraged at their city leaders/local organizers/construction companies/whatever more than anything else.
People still hate Carter for boycotting the 1980 Olympics as a way to protest Russia's invasion of Afganistan. Sad that a president looking for peaceful ways to stop wars should be one of the three major things that cost him his re-election.
On a purely personal note, I just came back fomr a weekend in Vancouver and the atmosphere and the events I saw were amazing. Im not big on sports, but I was that guy screaming and shouting. Got to see the Canadians take gold in men's freestyle mogul skiiing, and US take Gold in snow cross...awhile wearing denim (aka Massachusetts Gore-tex). People in Vancouver were super friendly, and security was not at all intrusive.. Also spoke to locals regarding treatment of the local homelss population in respect of the games; and seems like people actually care - and a close eye was being kept on that populations treatment by both locals and media. Don't see that too often around here...
sounds like a great time carl... never really cared for sports much either but the past few olympics have sucked me in...
