Not sure how far in advance you need to call.
I feel it's weird considering they don't release their menu of the day until.
And we all got a copy of the menu for the day.
    Folder included.

I wear button up shirts more than I wear tshirts I think. It's a result of being able to fit into them better than t shirts.

A few of my favorite places in the Ferry Building.
Always love to get a cup of coffee from Blue Bottle.
    http://www.bluebottlecoffee.net/
    http://www.yelp.com/biz/blue-bottle-cof ... rancisco-8

Give the Caramelized Waffle a try. Great w/ coffee.

And right across from Blue Bottle is Miette.
    http://www.miettecakes.com/
    http://www.yelp.com/biz/miette-patisserie-san-francisco

I usually get some macarons but this time I tried something new.
Heard the Strawberry Panna Cotta was good so gave it a try.
    I wasn't impressed.

Not far is Boccalone - Tasty Salted Pig Parts.

    http://www.yelp.com/biz/boccalone-san-francisco-2

I <3 me some tasty salted pig parts.

At the recommendation of Alex and Kirkland, had to get the Salumi Cone.
It is true. You can't beat some meat in a cup.

Next time I'd go for a custom Salumi Cone like my friend did.

Or else I'd just get a platter of this: Brown Sugar & Fennel Salame

Great photos as always Joe but this one is ace.

Toasted Prosciutto Cotta sandwich from Boccalone my guilty pleasure lunch a couple of times a week. Too bad about the panna cotta @ Miette but their macarons are always great.

Unfortunately Mijita and that "Japanese ingredients" place have slid way downhill. Gotta love the Ferry bldg. overall though.

That's my point brother, The truth is, you don't like much.
The pork chop is fantastic but did they have the bacon flatbread? That is the BEST. Did they send any amuse bouche? Last time they sent a local goat cheese on a crositini with some sea salt. It was fantastic.

Right now the best thing on the menu in my opinion is the Giant white beans w/ tomato, Feta(local), oregano and breadcrumbs. It's an appretizer but I could eat 3 of them. With the breadcrumbs on top and the feta, it feels like it could a southern Italian dish. If you like lasagna I highly suggest you try it while it's still on the menu.

Have you been to sight glass yet??

I don't drink coffee but my friend RJ works there, all my friends who partake in a regular bean love sightglass with a passion, above all including blue bottle, four barrel and ritual. Give a try and see what you think.

If RJ is there, tell him I said hello! This goes for all you coffee enthusiasts.

made a mini trip to SF last weekend.

i ate at dotties, ikes and san tung. ikes was definitely the best sandwich i've had. i couldn't stop eating the wings at san tung.

i also tried many of the ice cream shops. i revisited mitchells and got halo halo and cantoloupe ice cream. i also tried three twins, and the lemon cookie was very good. the salted caramel at bi-rite was alright to me. humphry slocombe's blue bottle vietnamese coffee ice cream was probably my favorite. the secret breakfast was a little too strong on the alcohol side for me.

I've been enjoying lunch goodies from Namu at their Ferry Building booth on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today I tried their "Korean tacos" which included carne asada-like marinated beef in a toasted nori "tortilla." The restaurant is on Balboa in the Richmond district, founded by a few brothers, one of whom worked for Chang in the early Momofuku days (and it shows.) Has anyone eaten there? Any opinions?

    Ok I'm saying it...

Flour & water is way overrated.

Not that it's not good. Just overrated. I'll take Delfina or it any day.

Everyone says that, which makes me wonder ... who is rating it highly? The professional critics? Everyone I know who's gone there says it was overhyped, overrated, nothing to crow about.

Although it'll be more of a neighborhood-casual place, I'm kinda interested in Papito, the new "French-Mex" place opening on Potrero Hill this weekend. Although normally I'd guffaw at the idea of "French-Mex," this place is run by the same crew that brought us Chez Papa, Chez Maman, etc. so my guess is that it'll be good.

The Carb fest 2010! So I had some friends in town and eat at the shit out of the Bay Area for a few days. Here are some highlights:

irst night we went to the Alembic and destroyed it. I ate almost everything there. I'm 100% serious. Afterwards we walked down to Magnolia and I had 1 ok plate and 1 that I command you to go and eat right. fucking. now. The first and somewhat "eh" plate was the "Pork Plate". It came braised pork belly, head cheese terrine, fried pig ear, port jus.
The second plate featured what I've been into quite a bit lately, figs and dates. So maybe I was pre-disposed to enjoying it.
Devils on Horse back - goat cheese-stuffed dates, wrapped in bacon
These were so rich it was like biting Bill Gates ass. I could have eaten 40 but only ate 3.
Everybody else at the table said they were a little rich for them but I think they were just being pansies. I think the bacon was slightly glazed with some maplely goodness too.

The next morning we went to the ferry building. I ate a ton of stuff. I had a belgian waffle, a beet sandwich from il cane rosso, some olive oil samples, a ton of baked goods from a miette, a few meat cones, a steamed bun from out the door and something else I can't remember.
That night we went to suppenkuche. I won't go into the food too much although it was delicious. I had a portabello mushroom with feta and a pepper sauce. They had sausages.
    Oh and this thing
    [IMG]

the next night we went to Flour and Water
    this is what I got
    [IMG]
manzo pizza – confit butter bolete mushrooms, mustard greens, horseradish & bresaola and I added Fried Egg. Just like the movie Inception, I enjoyed this but I didn't think it was life changing.

Onto the castro for a very touristy moment.
Hot cookie and a strangely shaped cookie.

Don't ask for my photo ok? My favorite place was yet to come the next day....

    Bouchon
    Boom. Keller stalking continues.
Just some bread and butter? Get out of here. This is bouchon. It's not just bread and butter, it's over the top perfect bread and salted butter.

    The fucking Pommes Frites!!
The real deal. I get a lot of "I'd be happy with just a plate of fries and not all that snobby stuff" comments from people. Well while those people munch on the shitty crap fries at Bennigans, they pass up "snobby" fries that are a whole 4 dollars more.
These are some of the best fries you'll ever have. Nothing but some quality, grown across the street(literally) potatoes. Double Blanched(look it up motherfuckers) aka done right. I'm not even going bother talking about how good they were. Just know..they were that good.

I didn't get photos of the mains because I too busy having a good time but figured I'd mention them and say that my friends got a bottle of wine they enjoy quite a bit.

Poulet Rôti - roasted chicken with red rice, pickled grapes, wilted arugula, candied hazelnuts & tarragon chicken jus
After trying my friends I kicked myself for not ordering Kellers trademark roast chicken. What an idiot I am. So good although my friend Meryl said the one at Zuni was still better.
Gigot d'Agneau - roasted leg of lamb with ratatouille, squash blossoms & panisse frites with natural jus
I ordered the lamb. Not sure why anymore.
Thon en Persillade parsley-crusted tuna with a ragoût of fresh beans,
    cherry tomatoes & sauce pistou

As I've said, Seafood is still new to me. This dish was the first time I had some tuna/seafood that made me want more. It was like I was eating pork tenderloin. I regretted my choice of the Lamb even more at that point even though it was spectacular.

Dessert in Bouchon? Why bother with the bakery 2 steps away.
I got some brioche bread pudding.

PS- this post is dedicated to Le Merde and Arbito. Love you guys. Let's eat soon!

SF eater, beer & nosh, 7x7, SF magazine, etc etc you name it, they talk about them like it's the second coming. Let's not even talk about the Beard nomination. Go back a few pages in this thread and you'll see my opinion on it. Oof. Can't believe they gave to them over the Alembic.

Thanks. Well, Eater is the only one of those I read. As with most things, I trust the "word of mouth" consensus over the critics. Real people rule.

I have guests coming from L.A. this weekend. They wanted to go to Pancho Villa LOL. I told them they have better taquerias in L.A. and that we're going to Pera for Turkish instead. I haven't been so I hope it lives up to the hype!
