Reminds me of a Ninja turtle villan from the 80's version. Which to me is a good thing, however i will be interested to see how it converts to vinyl. I hope there is a lot of texture for paint apps.

His arms won't be able to move if your sculptor sculpts it as you've drawn it.

Agreed. It looks way too KAWS/statue right now. Not toylike.

"Here are a couple of the rough sketches. The sculpt will vary some from the sketches, but it will be quite similar."

It's just to get an idea of the figure... We know what we're doing ;)

Again, these are sketches... We do know that the logistics of a figure this exact shape will not work...

Well, if you're asking people for thousands of dollars, I think you need to be able to show them exactly what they're putting in to. Don't want a bunch of people mad because it DOESN'T end up looking like that, or have a bunch of people note donate because the sketch does look that way ;)

I was thinking about this also from a jointing point of view.

Do you know where the joints are planned ?

Also I do like the sumo idea and have always wanted to sumo toy. But I think you should consider redrawing the legs and feet. They look way off from the rest of the figure. Also the person who is sculpted on the regular side throws me off. It would read better to me if it was trying to escape from the deformed side.

Just 2 quick observations. Good luck though :)

Re: Rishiki the Mutant Sumo Kickstarter has launched!

    Well here's the thing...

I cannot have the sculpt done before the kickstarter, as it is funding the cost of the sculpt.. This is to give people an idea of the figure. Some things may change, but you get a very close sense of the figure.. The legs will be a bit different, as will some of the mutated texture...

Chauskoskis knows what he's doing, and collaborating on the final sculpt we will get the figure up to snuff... We know ALL the joint issues, as I've been back and forth with Japan on it as well...

I do thank you for your input, and concern. Right now, this is the BEST I have to offer as far as showing people...

Everyone told me to make my own toy, and I'm trying to...

    Thank you

Re: Rishiki the Mutant Sumo Kickstarter has launched!

Just some advise from the experienced.

1.) if you know it's not going to be exactly what is shown you NEED to be crystal clear about this on KS. There is no room for leeway.

2.) Consider adding a deadline. It took me almost a year from day one as there where a lot of tie ups that where not expected. It drove me and the supporters mad. I would say 1 year should cover you and if it's done earlier even better.

3.) Add as many images as possible, even rough sketches. You don't have an actual toy or fully finished vision. This is a trust based project and if you want as many backers as you can, show them as much as you can even if it's really crappy. The better the feel the more a person will be interested.

4.) Ask for the least amount you can. That will help ensure a successful project. It's easier to raise 2500 than 5000 etc.

Where just trying to help you out D, please don't take the comments the wrong way.

Re: Rishiki the Mutant Sumo Kickstarter has launched!

No. I'm not taking them the wrong way at all... But honestly after peoples remarks to me, or about me over the past few months, it's hard not to assume everyone just has a negative comment...

I respect all help... Just getting to this point has been in the works for months. We are shooting for this to be done in the fall, early winter. As far as the cost... Speaking with the factory, this is a safe amount to actually fund the project, and get everyone paid, and get the first few runs completed for the backers... That is the amount I need to do it... I am having a baby, and have NO extra funds to create this...

Either people will back me cuz they want to see me succeed or they won't... As the sculpt is started I will of course update with pictures etc. Right now, I have to get it going to get all the funding so the sculpt can be completed...

I know it's hard to back someone without the final project sculpt being done... I'm just hoping people trust me and my sculptor (especially my sculptor). I know kickstarter is about getting a benefit in the end, but it's it about contributing to peoples dreams???

    Thanks for all the help...

Stop me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see any shit-talking in this thread. I saw a couple people with fresh eyes on your project offer up some observations, including one who has successfully used Kickstarter to do exactly what you're looking to do. Then, I saw you go whine in a different public forum. An internet image is all over, dude. Post your stuff, take a comment or two, and then stick to your guns. Don't pitch a fit every time someone disagrees.

D, calm down buddy, personally I really would like to see you get your toy made and I'm being honest. Im just trying to help you out with what I have learned from experience in this exact template.

I was just coming back to say your video was excellent and I had wished I had done the same. Very well spoken and super honest, I really liked it, again great idea.

I think you have a great concept , a great sculptor , great factory and the skills to paint.

Sorry if I offended you man, I'm 100% just looking out and wanted to throw you my 2 cents. I have talked with you in PMs so you know I'm not bullshitting you. There is nothing more I would like than to see more local artist make their own toys.

If there is anything I can help you with let me know.

Re: Rishiki the Mutant Sumo Kickstarter has launched!

Come on D-Lux, some of the above posters are offering some really sincere advice based on their experience going the whole 9 yards with toy projects.

It's not an either/or...support/don't support situation. It sounds like you might be in a hurry to get this done (fall/winter is just around the corner), and I know when someone offers opinions/advice the default tends to be to get defensive, but it might be to time take a deep breath, shut down the computer for a few hours, and then come back to the positive comments with a fresh perspective.

One thing I'll input is not to be totally married to the original concept, if tweaking it can make it even better. Sometimes the comments/feedback that get you the most pissed off might be the ones most worth considering.

Re: Rishiki the Mutant Sumo Kickstarter has launched!

Thank you RIch, and everyone else...

People know I'm a passionate person, and when something that's taken months to prepare gets criticized or scrutinized I get a bit "off"...

I don't mean to come off as pissy or bratty... I just want to make the best possible toy that people expect from me.

Oh, Andy... I know it's all helpfull... this has been in the works for months... Fall/early winter is the date the factory said we could easily shoot for, so thats what I'm going with... I don't want to rush anything by any means...

Between me, the sculptor, and the factory, we have already discussed Joints, redesigned legs, etc...
