I think it's a loss too. I think people that speak up what they think shouldn't get the doors closed. So he was unpleasant to some people. There's others who are unpleasant but are still here. Is it because you need to bother certain people for it to happen?
Alice was funny and entertaining. I guess he took things a little too far for too long? Oh well. Maybe he will come back as Ecila...
If he'd been banned for his homophobic comments of a while back, I'd have understood. But unless I missed something, the latest batch seemed tame(r). And yeah, the last person I remember being banned was so because of a fight with Pogue, no? Miss him as well.
So, someone does remember his homophobic remarks. There's plenty on this message board that I haven't read, so maybe I missed something, but his remarks about gay marriage were the most offensive of that ilk that I've ever read on Skullbrain. After making those remarks I figure that he was on thin ice. I think his recent antics were more than enough to break through that ice. Honestly, I can hardly believe that so many of you are giving him a pass on this.
I may have missed something myself, the only thing I remember him posting homophobic I perceived as completely and obviously sarcastic...but yeah that's not a great idea either, AND, again, I could have missed something and could be wrong on top of it. so I can't comment on whether or not that stuff should have contributed highly to a ban (though in any case I can't say I'm happy it was posted), but the recent things absolutely should NOT have I think. Axolotl nailed it. coma if you don't like the show I understand but if you do that's great. it's not for EVERYONE and I admit my tastes are sometimes considered strange.
Personally I thought Alice was just a troll. I always thought his posts were amusing and deranged (at best), but after the latest Nagnagnag debacle, I'm glad he's been banned. He went WAY over the line.
RIP Axolotl! Yeah, it's hard to read everything so who knows what we've missed, but there's been other homophobic remarks, racism, verbal aggression/violence, threats, etc... Some of these taken quite far. But indeed, Alice pushed it even beyond making his point. May be him being banned is another point? I cannot say I respect a homophobic person, but I too believe it was sarcasm. And reading his posts after that only helped to strengthen that idea.
This ain't cool. Alice might be a shit stirrer, but he's a good guy. 95% of the internet is about shit stirring anyway.
I wasn't aware of any of his homophobic posts so I can't comment but as far as the Nag debacle goes Alice may have pushed it too far but I can't see why you would ban someone for speaking out their thoughts. I liked the fact you couldn't just come here and push around your weight without someone telling you to fuck off.
Generally speaking I find it lame to ban anyone from any message board regardless of their opinion(s) be them popular or unpopular. If comments call for debate, then bring them on (or ignore them, your choice). Banning people doesn't make them, things or comments go away, the wolves are still outside the door. Banning people is akin to hiding ones head in the sand. I have grown very tired of people's (faux) PC elitism. Regarding the Nag thing, all I could gather was that Alice doesn't dig Coop. Finds him a sellout or whatever... So what.
I think everyone is missing the point. Posting 11 posts in a row when no one is responding and basically trolling 5-6 threads being rude and nasty about the same thing in all of them makes the board look bad. It also violates both of the first two rules. 1. Don’t be a jerk. If you are a jerk, at least be a charming jerk. 2. Flame wars suck, you will both get tossed. (no one was really flaming in response making the continued reposting on the same subject especially pointless, hell LS even stood up for him) I miss Alice already but it was quite obvious that he was getting ridiculous. When someone locks a thread and you create another thread with the sole purpose of continuing you are basically backing Mods into a corner. This is not a soapbox for you to just spam about one subject nonstop when you clearly have nothing to add. I wish a temporary ban was used to show the seriousness of the situation but we all know Alice had run out of "speaking my mind" about a week before being banned. Telling people to get the F off the boards like he owned it wasn't exactly constructive. Hopefully it's not a life time ban because before this started I always enjoyed Alice's posts and insanity. I just don't think it's fair to act like Alice had no fault in the situation.
You act like the board actually gets moderated much. As I said, I think HMS was a decision that made even less sense.
I have seen the Mods calm a few situations in my small time here but I am glad they don't stomp around the place. If one person cannot post anything in any thread without a second person jumping in that thread just to bash the first party (even if the bash is completely unrelated to the thread at hand), isn't that just harassment and bullying? If mods tell you that you are out of line and you don't listen then you are on your own. I learned that years ago and I'm sure Alice knew it as well. Having an opinion is great, reducing others ability to enjoy the boards so you can constantly repeat said opinion is not so great.
Minus the fact that most discourse on this board has dropped to +1 and cools from fan boys. But whatever. Alice was offensive and took it over the line many times. But he also would bring things up others wouldn't other times, and was amusing in his whatever posts. But the days of rogue skullbrain went away a long time ago to support sales. Not that the golden age was all it was cracked up to be. Minus toy shop rough. etc.
I still see plenty of criticism both constructive and otherwise on the boards but I don't have the experience of old school SB to compare my opinion to. I also see a lot of praise that is well thought out and spoken. I guess at the end of the day some people are just not the most interesting response posters. I do wish they had a timed ban like many video games do. It would be a nice solution if Alice could take a breather for a week and come back with another pie to poke his finger into. Skullbrain penalty box?
A sad day indeed, I for one have decided to burn my one of my prized fingerboxes in his honor, In times of great trepidation the Greeks would rather burn their personal fingerboxes, rather than let them be sullied by invaders that were there to conquer their spirit through force. The night before a big fight in the arena they would perform a ritual that included using a homemade solution of sulfur powder to make a caustic protective layer around their psilafo pygmacho (also commonly known as fingerbox). If anyone other than the rightful owner of the box would attempt to use it, the box would cause serious burns to the person trying to defile it through force. Unless the solution was washed off with a cream of aloe and special petroliums used to counteract the original ingredients used in the sulfur, the heat would cause their box to burn up by the days end. If they were successful in the arena their fingerbox would live on, if not than no one else would ever obtain it. Albeit we hardly live in the age of ancient Greece, I will burn my fingerbox, as a reminder that although he is gone, his spirit cannot be defiled, and nobody else will ever be Alice again.
i am super glad i never got into or spent insane money on a nag, because i would have to burn it in honor of alice. that dude was funny. i am including the offensive stuff too. some of the greatest comedians of the world had highly offensive material, and alice was my favorite skullbrain comedian. RIP.
