Is anyone else watching the new final season? Hard to believe it's been 12 years since a new episode aired. I really liked the show before but it did feel like a cartoon. Lots of great martial arts and sci-fi elements but it was never overly violent or adult. This new final season is insane. Incredibly brutal and so much more artistic this time around. The use of light and dark in the first 3 episodes has been stunning. It feels like the show grew up along with it's viewers. I am in awe at how much it's changed but somehow it still feels familiar.
i gotta get on this. never watched an episode, but have heard good stuff and it seems like something i'd be in to.
Got to see the new season premiere with q&a with the creator at the Ace hotel in LA!! So good and I hadn't really cared for the show as a kid.. might have to return to it but suuuuper excited for the new season either way.
I've been watching them as they come out, watched the series when I was younger and really liked it. This still has the same elements but is definitely a lot deeper and more artistic. For me the cartoon has always been violent. He cuts shit up all the time, but it's OK...There just robots!
I believe the creator said something similar, that they used robots so they could make it action-y and violent while still being a kids cartoon.. Edit: I just meant originally, this was just a thing he spoke about during the q&a
Not anymore. Spoiler The big change this season is that he's actually killing human people. Hell he just brutally killed a bunch of young women in episode three. Blood pouring action! The creator said he was amazed with what he could get away with now. That he assumed lots of his storyboards would be rejected but the only thing they made him change was a dog he drew with an X for a butthole. All the gore and violence and human killing was fine. Just no buttholes.
The show is also being aired on Adult Swim/Toonami now and not Cartoon Network. Unless you have satellite TV the show doesn't come on until 11PM. I think they knew it was going to be a more adult show seeing as it is 10+ years sense the last series and a lot of the people who were anticipating this show are adults who watched it when they were younger.
Sorry, ive seen all 4 episodes (the first three during the premiere as I stated above) I just meant that's what they did to keep it on a kids channel all that time.
I understood what you were saying, I was just adding some input as to why I think they were able to add human on human violence this season.
