Ooooh....I'm gonna have to go and disagree with you on that Rory... Maybe Xabungle, but I think Tryder/Brygar/Baxinger/Ippatsuman/Daitarn all fall safely in the "Super Robot" zone. It's all semantics because these rule, regardless of genre.
Just because you like a robot doesn't make it super. The difference is sleek vs boxey,70s vs 80s and in my opinion weak vs cool. At KMH in the early 90s these were terms for lame =Bryger, baxinger, galient and anything else with a square body lots of guns that looks like it was based on a sixth grader drawing.
Ah, but it does Rory...it most definitely does. Just like calling oneself "King" must make it true, right?
For the record there hot shot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Robot http://www.toyboxdx.com/infolibrary/pubs/superrobot/ I guess B-Media got it ALL wrong when they published the Super Robot Chronicles. Hmm... Not to mention various other books by Sunrise for example, when they directly refer to their OWN animations such as Zanbot, Daiojya, Xabunghole, Ideon and others as "super robots" they were clearly wrong. Shit.. They didn't check with you kr?? Huh? Make sure you get that all cleared up in the next meeting you guys have about your creative differences..
make no mistake Eric I generally love your collection. But I will allways disagree with putting bryger in the same boat as mazinger Z ,ideon in with getter robo, baxinger with gaiking, xabungle with Raideen! Perhaps no one else sees diferences in style ,art and time period but I do. I believe the design of your guys is more akin to gundam, dougram and the like.maybe I'm wrong but you and any other newly written book or blog will convince me otherwise. Perhaps a agree to disagree. And always agree on the cute and the pink.
