So, just saw the trailer for the Silent Hill movie. Probably a little late for some of you horror movie afficiandos, but I must say I was impressed.

Maybe I just have nostalgia from my game playing days, but this thing looks sweet. Hopefully it will flow well, be acted well, etc. but the effects alone look worth the price of admission.

Any movie buffs give me some more info on this? I'm hoping the big hollywood machine won't let me down!

Did Uwe Boll direct this one? I hate that fucking guy! But I agree some of that trailer did look pretty good.

Thankfully Bolle had nothing to do w/ this. The trailer looks great. They nailed the style - let's hope the mood holds up in the film version.

yeah, looks good, really faithful to the game.

I didn't see Alone In The Dark, but I'm sorry, I can't hate on Uwe Boll. I LOVE House of the Dead. I know you're all gonna crucify me for that, but let me explain. I don't love it in a "man, that was a really great movie" sorta way. I love it in a "that was a ridiculous, unintentionally funny piece of shit" way. it reminds me a lot of some other ridiculous old zombie movies that had huge plot holes and horrible acting and tried to be totally serious but failed (burial ground, nightmare city, night of the zombies, etc.). he probably thinks he made some really great, cool zombie movie. I think he made a really great, unintentionally hilarious hunk of shit zombie movie.

I think that would be all fine and good on it's own - but he buys up the rights to adaptations that some people wish would turn out good. As an Ed Wood type, on his own, that's fine - but fans of the games he "adapts" are rightfully disappointed/angry. He just exploits some loophole in German law to get the money to fund his movies. They're absolute trash & he's just abusing a flawed system. He acts like he's a misunderstood genius (which is funny, really) - but I think he's just a con artist, knowing full well he's making a LOT of money off of the trash he just barely poops out.

    Fuck him.

oh I agree with you, and as I said, I've only seen that one movie he did.

I really don't ever have high hopes for video games movies though. truth be told, I can't really think of a single good one.

I'm really excited for this...I can't think of another game related movie that has actually been good. I've enjoyed some, but they were usually piles of crap...

    seriously, all crap.

I like Mortal Kombat, but once again for a totally different reason. it involves a friend's experience seeing it opening night at a theater. I'll tell the story if anyone is interested in hearing it. it's hilarious.

The trailer looks amazing, and word around the campfire is that the director and writer (writers?) are big fans of the game(s). They truly wanted to capture the strongest part of the games -- the atmosphere. And by doing an original story, they can free themselves from the "why is this missing?" deluge of complaints.

The environments look awesome and the photography is really nice, judging from the trailer. Very excited about this one.

I didn't even finish House of the Dead -- I tried to watch it on the sat feed, and gave up less than half way thru. Not even the presence of Clint Howard saved it for me. Mainly, 'cause I was so damn BORED! I'm all for cheapness and B-movie attitude, but lets get some violence going on already!

I really wanted to see a film that went along with the strange game plot -- sort of an MIB with zombies and other horrors. Such a missed opportunity...

...willing to see Bloodrayne, tho, if only to see Mr. Blonde in that horrible wig and Sir Ben Kingsley get involved in some vampy violence (hopefully).

What's the story on the MK movie? Just curious...

I think my main problem with that flick was Connor MacLeod as Raiden. Nothing against Lambert (I'm a big Highlander fan... well, not of part II  ), but little things like a Japanese spirit showing up, well, like that... bug me. I tend to nitpick from time to time, so maybe it's just me.

I will have to watch House of the Dead again and make a list of all the things in it that are awesome. off the top of my head, I can think of:

-there is a female asian character named Liberty who wears a star spangled swimsuit through the whole movie

-the reason they are going to that island is because it has the world's biggest RAVE!!! (hahahahaha!!!!

-I know someone gets thrown up on within the first 20 minutes or so

if you told me these facts about some other movie that I hadn't seen, I would want to see it based on these things alone. but then again I love trash more than "real" cinema, most of the time anyway. not intentional Troma type trash though, only comic genius disguised as a serious movie.

the Mortal Kombat story is as follows:

my friend and a group of his friends went to see it opening night. I don't know if they couldn't get a ride to the good movie theater or what, but they ended up going to the town's local "ghetto" movie theater. in true poorly run theater fashion, they oversold the movie. so there are kids sitting in the aisles and on the stairs and whatnot. already bad news. so the movie starts and there is a theater overfilled with riled up kids just waiting for some kung fu action. from the get go it's pretty much just popcorn flying everywhere and about every 5 minutes some kid would just yell "MOOOOOOOOOOOORTAAAAAAAAAAALLL KOOOOOOOOMBAAAAAAAAATTT!!!" and kids were even getting up in the aisles and fighting along with the movie!!!

now normally if it would have been at a movie I really wanted to see, this behavior would have made me furious. but that situation at that movie (in retrospect anyway), just seems awesome to me. I think the movie should be screened with audience participation encouraged, sorta like the RHPS.
