Almost everything. A lot of it looked really cool but the sheer stupidity of it all just took so much away from the coolnesss of it for me. Plus it was long as fuck. But I will say that I'm not a fan of the game (just don't really play videogames at all), so perhaps if I was I would have liked it more. Even though it's a video game movie I think it should be able to stand alone though, and it didn't for me.
It wasn't based on any of the games, just the general theme and a few characters. 2 hours isn't too bad for a film.
but 2 hours of a sucking film feels like forever. One positive I will give it is that there was a definite sense of dread and hopelessness which I always like in a horror movie, but I still walked out of it going fuuuuckk that was sooooo lame.
I thought it looked kind of chese but then again I think all horror films should be made on a budget. Too much money spent on cgi effects that don't even look that great.
hahaha is that a compliment or an insult?! do I have good taste or bad? or both somehow? I would go see it tonight, but I'm going to a double feature of The Baby and The Man Who Saved The World (aka Turkish Star Wars). I might try to see it tomorrow or save it in case it rains one night while I'm in Florida so I'm not stuck in the room.
Ha, not an insult, I just know you like horror movies and I know you like crap like House of the Dead, so this movie will surely fit in there somewhere for you.
Please tell me its not as bad as House of the Dead! Say it ain't so! All I really care about is the set design, sound design, and most importantly - THE MONSTERS. They look pretty fucking cool in the previews! I LOVE the SH games - played 'em all - so I guess I have that on mu side. I hope at least.
I actually liked the set design, sound design and most of the monster action, and It's nowhere near as bad as House of the dead. I bet a lot of people will like this one, I think I was just hoping for more after seeing the cool trailers.
I dont think many films would ever sink to the level of House of the Dead. Silent Hill has a strong director involved (Christopher Gans) who's Brotherhood of the Wolf in my opinion was tremendous. Visually he looks to have done an amazing job but perhaps the story isnt very good. Hope to see it over the weekend and Ill be praying for the best.
dude, I liked 1 bad movie and now I have the rep of "you like crap". hahaha. I said I liked 1 bad movie in a jokey way, because it was stupid, silly fun garbage!! I still have SOME standards you know.
okay, I saw this tonight. I didn't love it by any means, but I didn't think it was the worst thing ever either. it was one of those movies that I liked the first half. started out really good and pretty faithful to the game, which I liked (played 1-3, not 4 though). then about half way they throw all that out and make up their own backstory and ending, which I didn't like. if they would have stuck to the original it would have been much better. but they used all the same look, exact same music, etc. which I really liked. the people at my theater of course talked and made jokes throughout the whole thing which took away from it. fucking ignorant americans can't take anything seriously and it drives me nuts.
Brotherhood...was great but this just sucked! The monsters were ok but not enough to save this film. Come to Hollywood and look what happens. Jackie Chan anyone? John Woo? Me? Oh wait
Trying not to see many films in the theatre these days. Is Hostel worth renting (haven't seen it either) ?? Given a choice, which? Hostel or Silent Hill
Hostel was cool as hell, definetly worth checking out. Silent hill is up to you. I liked Wolfcreek which alot of people hated. To eaches own.
Hostel sucked. I was so disappointed with it, if Tarantino's name wasn't plastered on it, it would have gone straight to video. It doesn't know what it wants to be, the first 30 mins is T & A and boring as hell. Most of the deaths (not nearly as gory as they want you to believe) produce a humourous response, which was odd to hear people laughing in the cinema as opposed to scared. meh
