New body...Although it looks similar to the "They Live" body. I actually really like the reuse of the bodies. I think the figures display really nicely because of it. Heck...SHB could have used the original Alien body for the whole series and I'd be happy.
perfectly understandable. the body looks great with the frankensteins monster, the others look okay, but not stellar. i agree on the originality point, but i do like some toys that have the same body/different head treatment. i guess it just depends on what it is!
Same body used is probably to help keep cost down so Akamatsu-san can push out more than 1 style head for sale at once? Notice for his company Marmit he doesn't introduce so many new molds in a year. But with SHB he's able to introduce more quickly in a year by using same body type.
I'm also curious if the Franken-X and Howling-X are from a movie. They have more of a strange children's book vibe then B-Movie look to them.
i could be totally off on this, especially due to poor facebook language translation, but he was having a conversation with a guy about an old model shop when he was a kid, universal horror, and rat fink stuff(i think). and he mentioned that the last weird blog guy was "not a vampire", he called it "wayne x" wayne x looks extremely familiar to me, but i cant put my finger on it.
The Franken-X sort of looks like its inspired by Roth artwork! Loving Franken-X and Howling-X. The Funhouse monster still freaks me out a little bit.
The Funhouse, had completely forgotten that film (for some pretty good reasons). Brings me back to when I used to read Fangoria.
SHB continues to amaze. Pumping out quality new sculpts at a blazing rate. Once I get a few extra bucks in my pocket, I might try to pick up some more of the original Monster X figures and these new ones. Now if only they could get away from clear glitter vinyl, that stuff looks terrible.
Definetaly the same body in all three. Not the Invader Z one from what I see. The Frank and Wolf look really familiar. 60s inspired art for something but not Roth. Not exaggerated enough.
To me the Wolfman & Frankenstein are clearly mash ups with old rat fink sculpts. The teeth on the Frankenstein & the Wolfman both scream Rat Fink...Also the eyes of the Wolfman.. Really liking these new sculpts. As someone who collects vintage American horror toys & modern Kaiju toys...This is a match made in heaven!! Gotta love the Skull Head Butt guys for keepin it classic...
I just came across this photo & I'd never seen this version before. Not sure if it was a custom or just a limited release. Anyone know?
It was an Angel Abby exclusive, offered to their subscribers first. The mail was sent out by the end of February, so I'm not sure if any remaining pieces will be sold at the shop somewhen.
i liked it better when it was just the unpainted teaser picture... this looks like a tiki mug toy or something. oh well
It does look tiki like, but I think that's why I like it. Universal monsters and tiki fit pretty well so it seems. I like the muted tone, but would love to see some garish paint apps on these guys.
yeah, i get what you mean. i guess i was expecting a cool, gangly frankensteins monster as opposed to this weird, squatty, alien arm thing. i too would like to see some garish paint on this toy, but ill probably be sitting out on all releases.
My initial reaction is that this Frankenstein Monster seems a bit cartoonish, or "Rat Finkish" so it does't seem to mesh well with all the other "B" movie monster styles in the series.
