good luck with that frank ! i can understand all the viet kong soldiers but really you only need one mini chuck norris to take em out .
having a weakness for marx playsets is a good thing . having a weakness for the chris benoit steroided out action figure the seller also has up well.........
That's a bad as playset. I remember as a kid in Chicago there was a neighbor kid who had about X5 sets like this set up in his basemet. I dug the fact that he placed plastic alligators down to indicate where the river and swamp hazards would be. Nyar.
I had several ww2 themed ones as a kid and would set up my army and defenses then unleash my big pet turtle on them. that turtle killed thousands. even if the americans and germans banded together they where helpless against the Horror... lol.
Speaking of marx playsets, probably the most amazing collection I've ever seen belongs to Bob Burns. He has plastic naked women that Mr. Louis Marx used to hand out at cocktail parties. He has all the tin sets in mint condition. Has a figure of Mr. Marx Himself. He also has a few "fake" boxes of marx sets that never really existed. "Alley Ooop" and "the Thing From Another World". Really amazing.
A friend of mine collects original Marx molds and blueprints. Has dozens of them. Also prototypes, etc. Pretty sick collection -- I've no idea where he digs them up.
Frank, I think I know those new sets you are talking about. Have they been making those for a few years now? If its what I am remembering those are pretty sweet. That Guerrilla Warfare set is the shit though!
my only marx toy . did an e bay seach on marx playsets and that really brought back childhood memories !
that is so awesome. man what i wouldnt give to be able to go back in time and check out the r&d lab at Marx in its heyday.
yes they made the 6" soldiers for a while, the colors are different they removed the Marx logo. I have full sets of original and repro. They stopped a few years back.
They also did the 12" articulated Knights (I gave my kid the Blue Knight & the Gold Knight.) They were really inexpensive.
Had the dinosaurs and cavemen many years ago, my neighbor had a WWII set. We worked out that a tank could take out a tyrannosaurus but a triceratops could turn over the half-track. Wish I still had it, but that's life. I wonder if that set back in childhood is part of why I like kaiju now?
Sorry you couldn't get it cheap, but hey that set is amazing...hadn't seen it before. Charlie looks especially good. Congrats!
