Came across this and it made me think about the colors we see frequently offered by sofubi makers: http://mentalfloss.com/article/94054/english-doesnt-have-word-color-japanese-does Original study is here: https://jov.arvojournals.org/article.aspx?articleid=2608579
I’ve thought about this, but just in passing really, that “pink” gets its own color name when it’s just a tinted red. Tinted blue is “sky blue” or “baby blue”. Tinted yellow is “canary yellow” “mizu” is a nice sounding word for tinted blue. But it’s just language. Chartreuse is a favorite color of mine, and it’s name come from a liquor. But surely the color was recognized by someone before the liquor was invented.
Since we're talking color, I heard this podcast years ago about how blue is the most recently "discovered" color. I found it super interesting and recommend giving it a listen. https://www.wnycstudios.org/story/211119-colors
