absolutely same thoughts... 2 men, 2 opinions that couldnt be more different dont like much about the new one. dont like flat stomach. dont like big round eyes. totally missing long arms with big beasty claws. ...even looks like its smiling. to cute to work imo. wasnt the og one supposed to be a "scary" fairy tale character out of the woods? missing all the rough parts making the old one edgy & mean looking. a real b-version to me.
I see where people are calling the Biskup version "cartoony", but that's another reason I don't like the original - it looked to cartoony and "creepy-cute" for me. Those eyes just really bother me, and the smile - not bothered in an unsettling way, but in an aesthetic sense. I like the design simplification. Actually now that I'm thinking about the "cartoon" comparison, the original looks like a caricature and the Biskup strips away those elements leaving it as simply a cartoon/illustration.
I love the new version. It's been a while since we've seen something new from Biskup, but this was worth the wait.
I like it. I like the original one, too, but I must say that I was put off, at first, by the doll eyes. I like the features on my toys sculpted on, not glued on afterward. I like that Biskup's version has sculpted eyes. I think this would look great at about 5" tall, but I can't really say that I think it would look bad if it were larger. Did someone say that the original Rangeas looked 'mean' or 'scary'? I always thought it looked rather silly with it's bugging eyes and idiot's grin. When I was on the fence about the OG sculpt, it was the stupid smile that finally won me over. If they'd done that, then everyone who saw the Biskup version would say "Why is it called (new sculpt name here) when it's just a Rangeas re-sculpted in Biskup's style?"
Here's what Biskup said about it: http://web.me.com/timbiskup/Alphabeast/Alphabeast_Blog/Entries/2008/11/2_T9GXTB_Rangeas.html I'm hoping the second half is a T9G version of one of Biskup's figures, Dragamel would be amazing.
the yellow t9g is the second half of the release, but when i hear "project" it seems like something bigger. i think its safe to hold out hope for biskup figure getting the t9g treatment.
I think I like this fella, but I agree with Devilboy about it's size. I too wish it was a smaller scale with a mini price point to boot. This looks like it's pretty close in size to the original, no?
Ok OK Ok , I don't know how I missed this thread. Wow. I love Rangeas, and this is neat. This makes me glad and frantic at the same time. I'm glad there is going to be more Rangeas, but I've gotta get one of the Biskup versions, hell, I need two so I can paint one. =) I can already invision the colors I would use... =) I saw the post of toysrevil- is this going to be made available anywhere other then the National Art Center in Tokyo? I've got to find a site that's gonna carry it, or if anyone from Japan can get me one I'll gladly pay. Shit, I'd probably take two! Oh man, he's neat. I still prefer the Original, and its because of all the goofiness, the manic dolls eyes, the grin, its like a monster from a twisted acid trip. Like its from Wonderland, or Labyrinth. =) phil
The Sculpt is growing on me as a comical version of the Rangeas (such as vision of Abbot and Costello) but it is going to have to depend on what size the final sculpt will be before I can make a final decission
Tims version is neat on it's own. I'm nine Rangeas into my collection and growing which was no easy task. Maybe if I was just starting my collection I'd pick one of the new sculpt up. I guess I like consistency
Hey Robert! When's your new line of robots coming out? I think that is why I haven't gone after the Rangeas. Way too difficult task.
It's up in the air right now. The economy being really shitty is forcing us to push back all our projects. Things aren't idle here tho, I've been busy writing and illustrating the comic book that started my robot. Toy wise we're shifting temporarily away from the bots to "plan-B". All I can say on that is "Resin".
