Awesome! I got to see it this morning, along with other Australian cinema representatives and media. Much has been said about Heath Ledger's performance in this film as the Joker and I can honestly say his performance, along with Aaron Eckhart's absolutely make the film irresistibly entertaining. The running time is over 2 hours but it felt like a 90 minute film because you're that wrapped up in what is playing out on screen. I'm probably already preaching to the converted but if you've been put off by the hype for the film, don't be, it lives up to and exceeds expectations! I can't wait to see it again when it opens!
Re: The Dark Knight is.. I'm more excited about this than I've been about any movie in a long time. The Joker is the coolest villain ever. I never thought anyone could do the Joker more justice than this guy: But I'm guessing Ledger took the Joker to a whole new level. Far past the cartoonish villain he was in 1989's Batman, and into something darker. But still, Jack will be tough to beat. "Wait'll they get a load-a me..."
Re: The Dark Knight is.. I love Nicholson's batman too, but Jack and Tim Burton took a lot of creative liberties with the joker character. The joker being portrayed by Heath is supposed to be much closer to canon...The joker being a psychotic lunatic to whom the biggest joke of all is our need for names, money, houses, security, etc. I really can't wait to see the Joker really come to life, he's batman's greatest villain for a good reason.
Re: The Dark Knight is.. I can't wait to see this flick. I don't want to know anything about it or read spoilers. I'm stoked.
Re: The Dark Knight is.. im seeing the movie on the 15th. im so stoked about it. ledgers joker looks amazing.
Re: The Dark Knight is.. I've heard it compared to Heat in some movie reviews. Being called one of the best Crime Drama movies, etc, etc. I just want to see the Joker as he's meant to be. I enjoy Jack's performance because I can separate a book from a movie. But as said a million times before it's Jack acting as Jack not the Joker. "Bob... You... Are my number 1... ha-guy"
Re: The Dark Knight is.. Holy Rotten Tomatoes Batman! 100% Fresh! http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_dark_knight/
Re: The Dark Knight is.. Compared to Heat? WOW! Heat was an awesome crime flick! I was planning to do the same until the wife found out it was going to be like 95 (+) degrees on Saturday. We are still going to see it, but from a nice cold theater! It looks like a 1 pm screening with 8 friends! CAN'T WAIT!!! Watching Batman Begins tonight!
Re: The Dark Knight is.. Nice one, I'm keen to watch it again in IMAX (would be my 4th time already hehe) to see the difference for the special IMAX stuff they shot. Edit: Oh and the movie has officially been out in Australia for one day (Wednesday 16th). It made over 2.2 million AUD. That's approximately 7% of the entire week's box office $'s, for over 52 different films during school holidays. In other words, very very busy!
Re: The Dark Knight is.. I saw it tonight. WOW!!! HOLY HOLE IN A DONUT BATMAN! Will definitely see it again. I gave it a 9/10 on IMDB. My only gripe in the movie was the extremely bad acting of the Chinese detective chasing Batman when they were in Hong Kong... Reminded me of another bad casting in a Hollywood film The Departed. Chinese triads that spoke really bad Cantonese... I sometimes wonder who casts Asians in Hollywood films?
Re: The Dark Knight is.. The worst part about the Hong Kong scenes is everyone is speaking MANDARIN! I mean the 1997 reversion, yeah, but walk down the streets and it's full of Cantonese speakers. Anyway it was a good flick, and fun to watch at the IMAX. The clarity was fantastic, and some of the scenes from the top of buildings were incredible. Complex film though - requires multiple viewings, I think.
Re: The Dark Knight is.. Oh and I think Ledger tops Jack at getting closer to the "real" insanity of the Joker, not a "put on" one like Nicholson's - though they represent very different versions of the character, just like the comics have many versions of the Batman, Joker, and every other character. One thing I'm wondering is where they can go next with this version of Batman. The only thing I can think of is a Milleresque Batman vs. Superman or vs. other super heroes story, but given the craptastic Superman we've recently seen on the big screen, I doubt that will happen. Or maybe a Robin story...or a Batman outside of Gotham..I dunno...this may be a character that needs to lay fallow for 10-15 years and then be brought back again when everyone's middle aged...
Re: The Dark Knight is.. Well if you work close to the film industry here in Hong Kong you will know that they won't allow you make films depicting triads, killings, or anything about the Government if it your story is after 1997. Scripts have to get the nod of approval from above before starting any filming. So I was not surprised that the building security guards were speaking in Cantonese and the boss spoke in Mandarin Heath Ledger was so convincing as The Joker. I can't wait to see him in Terry Gilliam's new film "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" when it comes out in 2009. So sad for his death though...
Re: The Dark Knight is.. I'm sure there'll be a third film shortly. I expect this film will appeal to audiences that have avoided superhero films in the past. I hope they avoid bringing Robin into it.
Re: The Dark Knight is.. I disagree, if it's done right, it could be the coolest! Dark Victory had a great intro for Robin. They probably will never do it so don't worry, but I think the Robin character is the best. Who wouldn't want to be the kid that hangs with Batman!
Re: The Dark Knight is.. I'm pretty sure Christian Bale has said that if they introduce a Robin character, he wouldn't be interested in doing any more... I'd like to see a Catwoman character introduced... never cared for Michelle Pfiffer's version.
