    Someone has set a precedent:

Having never seen it, is it explained as to why he is wearing a swastika around his neck or did the costume department just get the symbol reversed?

If it were me, I'd make it with a blank sash. If someone didn't like it, they could skip buying it. Or draw on their own symbol with a sharpie.

I haven't seen the movie either but if it's a manji, they go in both directions.

i would simply substitute the swastikaa with a rotting zombie penis and paint him in Ultraman colours.

Someone could argue that it is missing the ‘jaunty’ angle that the Nazi party utilised but it would be more challenging to deny that since WWII, the symbol, right facing, is synonymous with Hitler, Nazism and all that it encompasses.

I am not stating that the film makers used it with that meaning in mind because I do not know any of the context of the film (it would be interesting to hear from someone who does) but I do think anyone who uses that symbol, right facing, in a creative medium, post WWII runs a serious risk of it being misinterpreted.

By Americans, perhaps. If you're putting that manji on something that looks like a German WW2-era soldier or vehicle, you are absolutely referencing Nazism. If you're putting it on something dealing with Hinduism or Buddhism it's a different story.

i wouldn’t have any issue with this made with the manji on it. It’s not the Nazi interpretation of the swastika (tilted in a white circle on red field) and if it were simply a figure based on this martial arts tv/movie that’d be ok. Some people might not realize the subtle difference but that’s on the maker for choosing to do it. But folks making toys/depictions glorifying the swastika/nazism because they think it’s “edgey” or worse because they’re somehow unaware of the worst atrocities in human society in the past 100 years is unacceptable.

:Only making this comment to put my mind at ease, I get it isn’t really the point:

@hellopike I wouldn’t say that nazi Germany was the worst atrocities in human society of the last 100 years. Their are unfortunately some other man made events that can compete either in magnitude, cruelty or both. What happened in Russia for exemple.

I think it’s becoming increasingly important to be precise with our words nowadays. Please feel free to ignore me.

Goulags in Russia killed apparently around 1.8 millions persons but they were used for a long period of time.
Cambodia suffered extermination of 1.7 millions inhabitants during the Red Khmers period that last 4 years.
Extermination camps killed 3 millions persons in the same time...
Hard to find something worst than the Nazis...

The idiocy of semantics when discussing human atrocities. I guess Nico would prefer "one of the worst atrocities in human history"
Just a word of advice for someone who says words matter, you're sounding like an anti-semite. Try not to correct people when they're talking about the holocaust.
Hard to find something worse than nazi death camps who made uniforms out of human hair and lamps out of human skin.

    No. Not really Dr. Bovitol.
I wouldn't. The movie was a late night TV staple in the 70's and 80's.
There's plenty of "Cultural Appropriation" in it as well. Although the "Kratutrock" soundtrack really got me most.

@Paulkaiju The hip hop group Wu - Tang got me into Kung Fu films when I was a kid. Not a whole lot of ‘em but I enjoyed Five Deadly Venoms, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin and Invincible Armor. Only checked ‘em out ‘cause of an article I read in a magazine. Closer to what I guess would be my generation, I really enjoyed Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master and Rumble in the Bronx, as well as Woo - Ping’s Iron Monkey and Jet Li’s Fearless.

I am a proud owner of a cheap bootleg copy of Master of the Flying Guillotine (no krautrock soundtrack). I highly recommend it for all it's grindhouse glory. As far as that figure goes, he's a bad guy from a movie. I don't see how the accuracy to a movie costume is controversial. There is not one aryan reference in the movie.

I used to rent a lot at Hollywood video, as they were in the 3 for .99 cents section. Wu-Tang did help later on continue to venture to watch some more. Can't say i've watched many in the last decade or so though.

I grew up watching and loving them, still do. When I was a kid the streets were empty between like noon and 5pm on Sundays, because one of the local networks played Shaw Bros movies at that time. When they were over, you were back outside trying to kick each other’s asses using some insane techniques you just watched the Poison Clan use.
