The fugliest toys you have seen while collecting.

Fuck! this stuff is lacking vision. It seems like they just bite from what has "worked" instead of using the inspiration (obviously Nag, MVH, and HS) to guide them to their own light and express something that doesn't need permission--which results in something refreshing. but i guess art is allowed to not be refreshing, so meh. such a waste though.

 

If it’s making someone happy (or mad, or sad, or confused), I suppose it’s doing some kind of job as a piece of art. I don't particularly like discouraging people from expressing themselves, but constructive criticism is always valid.

For me, personally, as a piece of art but also as a toy, please… just… I think we reached peak dick a decade ago and some of these makers are just beating a dead dick.

It’s very cringe. Along with any nod towards fascist iconography. If any maker makes any allusion to that in their toy, no matter the intention, I’m out. And I’ll dump whatever I have of theirs to boot.

This thread really reminds me of one of my favorite instagram accounts, Catatonic Youths.

 

@bbb Catatonic Youths is such a great page, but Christ is it hard to watch sometimes. The secondhand embarrassment I get hurts on occasion.

CunttGrinder’s two headed ape is appealing to me. It’s also a testament and commentary, to me, of how easy it is, yet he probably won’t be charging thousands or having people beg for it. That’s always been my biggest turn on with Target Earth. Sato - San has always made his versions of popular toys, seemingly out of comedy and spite, and sold them much cheaper, sans his recent creations that are more expensive through Marmit. With Rey in particular, I don’t think he’s trying to rip off or want to be the next Nag, I think that toy was just an early footing into drawing from inspirations. I really don’t like that figure, but what it served for him as far as expanding his body of work, I certainly do appreciate.

 

I like how the Blobpus one already has a penis, but it comes with a side order of extra penis.

 

Yeah, and 'Blobpus' does kinda sound like the name of a venereal disease!

 

Some of his paint jobs look kinda diseased... I feel like they're really hit or miss, but with more miss.

I'm just saying, if someone displayed that toy proudly in their house, I'd be out of there so fast. Serial killer material.

I actually kinda like that Doraemon toy. It’s…dumb as hell by all rights, but it’s done well. Like a bastardized version of Doraemon designed by western artist aesthetics. I could do without the puddle base, though.

Kinda trying too-hard for my tastes (like the piss-pants Doraemon) but yeah, still fairly cool. I don't dislike every toy I post here, but I do think they're fugly.

Sculpturally, I think that Red Tongue Toys piece is gorgeous.

I don’t hate the blue wanna be Jim Phillips Shaka hand samurai thing with toilet brush weapon, simply because the head/hand reminds me of previously mentioned artist screaming hand graphic.

if that makes any sense.

 

I give my kaiju feet to walk and crush. Hands to grip and hammer. A tail to swing and destroy. Eyes to see. Ears to hear. A mouth to feed and devour. Yet, how does it excrete waste, with no penis or anus? I’ve followed gods blueprint, but the shame of human morality stops me from creating a complete beast. But the beast world has no shame. This is the philosophical dilemma of kaiju making, that has tormented toy designers since the dawn of sofubi.
